#170 Rule of Thirds, Again
Created by ladpupmoe
Hosted by mrsawyer
It is hard to believe it has been 132 challenges ago since we last ran this theme! So, let's create photos that clearly display a creative and interesting use of the rule of thirds. Some say, the best thing about rules is breaking them... But in this challenge, let's embrace the rule of thirds by using it in the composition of our entries. From wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds:

'The rule of thirds is a compositional rule of thumb in visual arts such as painting, photography and design. The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections. Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would.'

See also digital-photography-school.com/rule-of-thirds, hippasus.com/resources/viscomp/RuleThirds.html and www.digital-photo-secrets.com/tip/2742/why-does-the-rule-of-thirds-work/ for more info.

Note: For this challenge, some members wanted to experiment with a new rule proposal which (for this challenge) supersedes the posted rules on our website.

We encourage you to describe any post processing (PP) you performed and the reason. There are two ways:

  1. You can describe your methods in the PP description field of your entry and the information will be visible during voting, or
  2. You can indicate in the PP description field that you will provide the information later in a comment to your own entry after voting begins. Your comment with PP information will not be visible to others during voting.

Sharing PP information helps others to learn from what you have done. We hope you will share the details of any PP that you consider significant and any special techniques that you used.

Voice your opinions about this experiment via our forum or email to admin@panachallenge.com .
