... spread those wings and learn to fly.       ©2010 elliott

Post-Processing: used a 'haze' filter from helicon. little bit of sharpening but denoise after that seems to lose the detail a bit. cropped and resized.       Extra Info: this is in a nice protected area near where i work. there are two nests up at the top of this long leaf pine. i've taken bunch of shots of these heron waiting to see their first flight. a nice breeze came up and mom (on the left) had been coaxing one of the young ones to spread its wings and feel what the air does beneath them. young one wasn't ready to make the 'leap' that day. week later and one has been out and around, but from all the squawking, i think mom and dad are still doing the feeding.

yes a bit dark. haze filter brought the blue back but made overall darker. this was with 150mm kit lens. i don't really use it much except for these heron so i doubt i'd buy a better lens for the little nature stuff i'd shoot. tree might be 70ft high so i was probably more than hundred feet line of sight. i'll post version with your suggestions in out takes after challenge. not enough detail to make too much tighter crop but i'll try it. thanks for comments and suggestions. el

This would be a great shot if it wasn't so dark. It gets lost in the thumbnail size especially. It must be interesting to watch these beautiful birds on your way home!

Great shot, taken in the perfect moment.
Sadly it looks a little bit dark on my monitor.
Good composition.

I really like the Audubon quality of this image. A closer crop might help but even more, I think, would be some PP to lighten/highlight the birds and make them pop out of the surrounding background. On the whole the image looks a little dark and could use some contrast or selective highlight and shadow. Not sure what effect the haze filter had.

Cannot see what the focal lenght is. Always need more for birds. Is there enough quality for a crop? Apart from that (which you may not be able to do anything about) a lovely shot.

Great timing! Great subject! The photo seems to be underexposed though. Good Luck.
