Congrats on the first TT. More to follow I am certain. And you are right, I'm convinced these Challenges do make one a better photographer. (I'm not sure what you meant by where do you find this stuff? but taking you literally, there are farms all around the municipal edges of Toronto which are being turned into subdivisions by urban sprawl. Unlike many parts of the U.S., our sprawl here goes more in the form of the "urban carpet" so we have residential homes sometimes with 30 foot frontages next to working farms, but our development here tends not to "hop-scotch" as much as I see in the U.S. When a farm is nearing development, the silos, barns, fences, just get left unrepaired pending their demolition.)

I would like to thank everyone for their comments and votes. This is my 1st TT and I hope to get more. I love these challenges, and I feel it makes one a better photographer. This image is going to be printed, framed, and will hang in my living room. :-)

Thanks Akebono, Una, and Jade! This finish is certainly a move up for me..... but I knew this image was a winner the moment I saw it. Thanks again for your votes!

This was also my number 1..... the colour composition really set the mood, giving the feeling that this place has sat untouched for what seems an eternity.
Well done!

This entry was my number 1...

I like the simplicity of the scene, the warm colors and the natural light that does the job...

Congratulations!

Cheers :-)

Nice finish though I thought this one might even have gone higher. I realized it was possible it was the building that was out of plumb but looking at the image, the left side in particular simply appears to be lens or perspective distortion. This would be an easy 30 second fix using the perspective tool in GIMP. Congrats on a fine image all the same.

Nice treatment which is very much in sympathy with the subject. Composition works nicely too. In my top five.

    Jade,
I tried to straighten the image as much as possible while framing it. Everything in the building was leaning one way or another, and that particular room is literally falling off the main building. I tried to concentrate on the right hand corner and the floor for a plumb/level line. Perhaps I should have concentrated on the window. Yet, if I had, the walls would have been out of plumb, and the floor slanting. I will certainly remember this when I am framing my next image! LOL! :-)

This is a beautifully rendered photo, with great detail and colour.

Perfect find for this challenge. I like the composition and processing too. Nice work.

I was immediately drawn to this one by the thumbnail but find it wanting in a couple of respects. There is a pronounced tilt to the left and a someone fuzzy look, though that may be deliberate. The lighting and tones are particularly rich and the composition, subject, and framing are a lesson in how to do a professional looking centred shot! I really like the artistic quality in this one and, tilt aside, think it would make a fine modern painting. In my TT.

Yes, that is the color of the building, and that is why I was drawn to it.... it's a warm monotone. The only thing I did here was add a slight bit of contrast, since I'm a bit of a purist with my photography. I visited this building three times before I got the lighting I was looking for, and that was early morning light. The top left corner concerned me as well, but I left it in to show the disrepair of the roof, where that warm light was coming from, and to show the ceiling's condition. (to conform to the challenge topic) The image was not cropped... just resized for the web.

Was that the colour as you found it? Terrific bit of decayed house. I wonder about the top left corner and how it drags the eye away. TT I think
