mrs sawyer, I used GIMP here as I do almost exclusively for all my PP; for those who do not know, it is a free download and virtually mirrors photoshop. If there is anything in particular you or anyone else would like me to explain, I can do it here, on the forum, or by email if you prefer to post your email address.

hi Jade, what software you used to create this entry?

Congratulations Jade. This is a great picture with a wonderful mood - and it had deserved my vote...
Kudos to your models too. I would have bet they are a couple.

Thank you all for your votes and comments. The PP was simple and quick. Three layers, base mugs, edge detect friends, and desturated friends. The skill in this was lighting the mugs; to get defining shadows and side lighting, I had to move the lighting during a longer exposure from side to top!

I agree the mugs were slightly offset in depth. That is a flaw I missed on set up.

I understand those who rank images with PP lower; it is a valid point of view though not one I share. Appreciate all who took the time to comment and those who indicated why this would not get their vote.

Very creative and clever. This was in my top ratings. Nice to see it finish well. Congratulations.

This picture is outstanding! A really perfect way to show "coffee atmosphere".
The couple, the cups, each picture is very well taken and the combination is artwork.
If any, the only thing you could have done better was to pose the cups on the table between the couple.
I hope you don't get me wrong, but though your picture deserves highest tribute, I will leave it out of my T4. I have the feeling something else would be unfair towards those who concentrated on photography and are less skilled in post processing (like me).

    piman Wow, Thanks!

mrsawyer I know some prefer no PP so it is good to know why I did not get your vote (or why you ranked this lower). Thank-you. (And, yes, the friends set up was taken specific for this challenge entry and obviously posed not candid. They are not a real couple!)

Alberto I expect mrsawyer's point is the same; there is nothing spontaneous about this shot; it is all a set up, but, it was the only way to bring life to my idea; I'm pleased you like it.

Nice photo project. I can see this as an ad in a magazine. Was the couple from a photo taken during the challenge period? (just wondering) I like the way the "steam" wisps into the image of a couple. The unevenness of the cup placement bothers me a little, though I like the overlap of the handles. For this competition however, I feel there is more graphic design than photography here. Good luck in the voting.

Ok...I'm not a fan of collage...But i think this one is very well made...Not only technically...In fact it has a great mood and reminds me a lot of things...
Very clever idea, great caption and p/p!

Lo Are they friends or is there more happening? Clearly they enjoy each other's company. My concept was to visually represent "meeting over a coffee" but thought Friendship a less gimmicky title and, for me at least, much more romantic. To love and be great friends, too, is a wonderful gift.

Old Finn Yes, it's me! A little skill perhaps but not much work to put together at all. The work for me was in trying to think of something original.

Michael, thank-you. I really appreciate equally all constructive suggestions and subjective views. I played with the crop at the bottom as originally I thought as you did but in the end felt I needed the space under the mugs; the image, for me, felt too "heavy" without it.

elliott, the PP time was not that much at all; if you want to see time spent on PP, see my entry in the disconnected challenge!

What can I say except Bravo! The mugs are perfectly captured. The whimsical figures are blended in beautifully, and romance is definitely in the air.

Super composition. excellent idea. Coffee and people - love it. I think it improves a little if you crop more from the bottom. I only mention this since I know you want critical comments. Did I say I loved it !

i'm not one to guess who does what, but i don't know of anyone (except for jade) who would spend this much time and effort to make this composition work well. very well done. top pick. el
