Kudos Jade! I'll have to try the white balance technic sometime.

Congrats Jade - I thought you could have used your influence above and ordered a touch of snow LOL

Congratulations JadeO :-) It's been not in my TT as the big house itself lacks festive cheer. I would have liked to see more of whats going on under the little roof. (I have already seen the outtakes.) But it is a fabulous shot!

I like the way you've captured the lights and the hanging stars, it looks like a great way to ring in the new year...much better than spending it in front of a tv !

Thank you Franz. I like the composition and light effects but somehow feel the subject lacking; I think maybe it would have been better if people were facing the camera. See outtakes for my alternate picks.

Beautiful. Very good composition and nice light effects / colors.
I like those stars and the tree, but especially the building.

No snow so couldn't do much there; went for the wet light reflections instead; more people would make the reflection impossible, and I would have had to be there much later!!! The City Hall looks good because ALL the lighting is turned on just once a year - for New Year's celebration. The colour is actually a reflection of a deliberate misapplication of white balance in camera - something I've been having some fun with on night shots. (See outtakes for maybe better shots - I thought this one would compliment the Main entry.

I think snow on the ground or a lot more people would have made this more of a celebratory shot. Beautifully composed and executed. I think my favourite part is the red glow in the sky - it just adds that extra special touch to the city hall structure (I've never seen it look this good).

Lo I knew there was something I didn't like about this! That's it! The thumbnail looked o.k. but full size, it is too empty and not festive at all! Thanks for the insightful critique. Sometimes you concentrate on lighting so much you forget just what effect you are supposed to be achieving.

fc Definitely this was before the crowds; just about five hours before midnight if I recall. All credit on the stitch to the ArcSoft Panorama Maker software that came with the camera.

raf Me, too, which I why I picked this instead of my original first choice!

I like this shot because it's an unusual take on a very well known location, but I find it almost moody as opposed to festive.
