The Older the Better but new paint       ©2011 forkcandles
Panasonic DMC-GH1       19th place, 21 points
1/30s, f22, ISO 200, 44mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: cropped and resized. shadows and highlights. some cloning to remove sunspot       Extra Info: One of the oldest building in town and was the first Merchants House in the village of Redcliffe after the Bristol or Brigstowe Bridge.
Modern shops fill in the front reception rooms but the upper floors are mostly storage and offices but small. John Cabot of the Ship Matthew would have called here for meetings with his backers. He lived in the city across the river at this point.

I like the architectural study but would have liked it more without come of the background elements. Mostly, though, I think this needs a deep clear blue sky or blue sky with white cloud to realize its full potential.

LO The picture may be a bit dark. due to time the sun was behind the building so problems of reflections. even the large white van behind me didnt help.
Mepo surroundings in the same time as build. wet damp smelly and then the gutters. this is near Bristol Bridge and the picture could not have been taken then as the nearest house was at an arms length. The river would have smelt and the main reason the building survised was mainly due to the owners who were wealthy.

Wonderful to see a building of this age in such good condition. The sign says Circa 1450 and one can only imagine what it would have been surrounded by in that age. I would have preferred a view that did not include the office block on the right. Nice choice for the challenge.

Certainly fits the theme. What a beautiful old building. Perhaps it's my monitor, but the photo seems a bit dark.
