Post-Processing: Six image stitched pano, layer, adjust colour, grayscale, tone, and saturation, resize sharpen.       Extra Info: An iconic example of Brutalist Architecture, elevated expressways lay waste to their surroundings and create searing cuts across the body of the urban landscape, cuts which pulse and bleed noise and exhaust emissions across vast sections of a city, and once created, lie upon the skin of urban life like an ugly parasitic infection nearly impossible to remove. Here the Gardiner Expressway, like some post-apocolyptic apparition, lies across the mouth of the Don River in Toronto, where once a lakefront wildlife habitat has given way to fetid water redirected by ugly concrete channels in a ninety degree turn away from the course of its natural flow into Lake Ontario.

There is nothing ugly about this to me at all.

Lo, how did you know it was me?! LOL! I very much appreciate the detailed comments; it is great to get in depth feedback. I, too, was intrigued by the concentric circles which I anticipated but could not see until the stitch was completed - I think geometry of composition has a lot to do with the impact of a shot. With some tweaking I might have been able to make it more eye shaped.

Jade, you've done too good a job in presenting the beast to have it look really ugly. I love the soft light across the top of the expressway, and the way the light and shadows reflect in concentric curves under the overpass. It's a necessary evil in a city that never sleeps, and you're right, it's an ugly blot on the landscape.

raf - the pixelation is enhanced by the downsizing; don't know if there is a fix for that.

Franz Thanks! See my outtakes for PP variations on the same image which might make it appear uglier.

fc It looks worse at night! It creates an environment where are people on foot are unwelcome aliens day or night.

Michael. See my comments in my Open entry as to my thoughts on beautiful perspectives of ugly things.

I like the image and will be TT, On my monitor the flare around the sun has become pixelated into distinct rings, perhaps because of the size restrictions, a minor distraction.

Cool finding and idea. On first view it is a beautiful picture for me. Reading the info and having a closer look, it suddenly turns to "ugly".
Very well done.

This is no 1. Stands out and makes you think. I wondered where the designers of spaghetti junction o/s Birmingham England had gone now I know.
Does it look bette at night?

Unfortunately (for this challenge) your photographic skill has given this eyesore an industrial beauty.
