Thanks, Bill. The light was shining from a point about midway up the frame which is why you see the underside of the leaves lit and the reflection on the bottom right side of the bowl. If you look at the rounded stocks, you'll see the shadow which confirms the light was to the rear but off to the side - I think the rounded bowl which refracts the light onto the roots from every angle and the two exposure image (the leaves were dark when the bowl was exposed and the bowl blown when the leaves were exposed) helps fool the eye into wondering where the light is coming from. (Actually you can see the shadow of the stocks on the glass bowl rim which tells you exactly where the light source is coming from.)

I liked this Jade, and it is a much better photograph than the finish suggests. I had some difficulty seeing it as back lit, though I am sure it was. I took several shots that I liked and discarded them because they did not 'look' like the theme. I think even the ones I submitted were on the edge in that regard. I am honored by your comments about them and the fact that you like them. Thanks very much!

Again more than a little surprised to finish in the TT here! Thanks everyone. (And for raf, see my outtake on this one and let me know if the something more helps!)

Very nice lighting, great background. Beautiful little plantlet.

Lo The glass reflected light and the roots allow more light to bounce around hence a proper exposure on the bowl left the foliage too dark and a proper exposed leaf left the bowl blown.

raf I agree it needs something more to be effective. As it is it is rather pointless other than a technical exercise.

I'm not sure I understand why the foliage and glass were taken separately. The resultant colour is certainly beautiful, though and the composition is striking.

Like the use of negative space and the colour. Some potential in this idea.

fc Pleased you like it though I thought it was a little ordinary. I was intrigued by the roots but didn't have time to figure out how to play them up more.
