Congratulations on another fine image. I agree.. it has the Old Masters look about it.

Michael (Mepo) is, of course, correct (not that anyone might take my jesting seriously, but always best to avoid any misunderstandings.)

(And, Michael, next time, could you please make it large bills. I've never seen so many two dollar bills stuffed into one envelope.)

Jade - I see you have besmirched my very honorable reputation by slanderous skulduggery. I therefore challenge you to a duel at Sunset (of course) it is rotten tomatoes at 10 paces. Name your seconds.

I hope that anyone reading Jade's comments will understand that we administrators have no ability to change your votes in any way at all. I also want to stress that the computer glitch was not of my doing and I had no control over that either.

Jade and I have a lot of harmless fun at each others expense and I readily accept his comments as part of our ongoing repartee.

Curses - foiled again! Well Moriarity - I'll just have to see what I can come up with for the next challenge.

wowser! i love this work you did. nice finish!!

yesterday i found myself in a humongous store that i usually boycott and headed straight for the fabric section to find some black material to use for back ground on future shots i'd like to try after seeing your entry. (didn't buy anything, but had fun).

and i wanted to know what it said on the box... thought i could make out 'muscat'. saved your image to my desktop and opened with faststone. played for a few moments and was amazed by what was still visible. of course a whole different image and feeling emerged.... all of which makes me more impressed by what you did here.

again, well done.

Thanks for your comments elsewhere, but I really don't think there is much you can learn from me. I think these entries show you to be a very fine photographer. Not only that, but you are finding a style that makes your photos identifiable, regardless of topic. In short, I like what you are doing. Congratulations on two worthy placements.

Lo, Lol! Pick your favourite from the following responses:

1. You expect me to believe that explanation, LOL!

2. No way you can get out of picking the next Challenge topic now! I chose the last challenge; if I'd ended up on top again I would have passed on this one so you would have ended up choosing anyway!

3. (Tell Michael he can send the cash in an unmarked envelope if he wants to buy my silence.)

4. Lest you feel badly, I suspect your votes were recorded but some (besotted?*) admin deleted them in an attempt to curry your favours!!! This is a case for Holmes!

*besotted (as in smitten)

(Personally, I like #4 the best.)

Jade - I've just realized that none of my votes were recorded in either the Main or the open, and for once I had actually done them ahead of time. You were my #1, and that would have put you into first place. I'm sorry about that - not my fault, but the title really is yours. Would you like to choose the next challenge??

Thanks, Bill. That was the look I was trying to achieve.

A beautiful rendition of an old masters work of art. A favorite for sure.

Mepo, Lo, Old Finn. That's 3 for the old masters look! My self critique is I achieved my goal of the "look" but the objects still look like a grab bag of disjointed elements to me. Pleased to have all your comments.

fc. I use Qtpfsgui (now called Luminance HDR). Luminance HDR is a Qt4 graphical user interface -available for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X - that provides a workflow for HDR imaging. It is a free download and there is also a free on-line manual. I find it very user friendly with full control for several types of HDR looks from pure reality to pure fantasy.

If anyone needs a tutorial, just post a request in the forum.

Thank you for not overdoing the HDR - beautifully shot, very evocative of musty old grapes. Reminds me of the Rembrandhause except The nightwatch has become the light lunch.

Mar 10, 2012
Love it! Looks like a Rembrandt painting, with the muted colours and the richness of light and shadow.

The illumination and colors in your pic resembles the paintings of old Dutch masters. Itīs beautiful, my nr 2.

Mar 10, 2012
not a fan of HDR but this one has changed my mind as to the use it can be most effective. top ten finish

Not quite the compositional effect I'd hoped for but a good learning experience for me in trying to replicate the old masters look.

(re- your edited comment - Lol! Now I realize that's what I didn't like about this! I hate Baroque!)
