fairburn heavy lift crane       ©2012 forkcandles
Panasonic DMC-GH1       20th place, 30 points
1/200s, f6.3, ISO 100, 44mm, Normal Program, Spot, no flash

Post-Processing: cropped resized. used cut oyt filter and selected background levels lower than top layer.       Extra Info: the fairburn built 1878. heavy duty lift crane and can still lift 35tons
as with icebergs the base is bigger than the top giving the weight capicity.
now a scheduled monument. it was and endangered dock item as in one year the profit for the year was 65pence. the crane committe coould not find anybody to remove it and had we done so on the profit made it would have taken 1500 years to pay for the recovery so we still the crane

I love the composition which imparts a sense of power but I kinda wish there was no pp on the crane itself. Thanks for the extra info. So many cranes and other heavy equipment have come and gone and this one just keeps on ticking - amazing design and build.

Taht was interesting. I was not aware of the fact that they built cranes in the 19th century!

Well done for giving a different approach a shot. It does not work for me but that is one persons opinion. We have to try stuff to get the feel we want.

Quite a piece of machinery. Don't like the PP though.

elliot. yes its the only one left. due to everything else nearly ran out of time and the black and white was set on the camera and it was so flat i tried to enhance and give shape. the company built this one and seven others in most of the major ports around southern england
they were delivered in kit form the main part was the 30 foot iron spike driven in to the ground

it is certainly unique and i think its worth saving.
i think you shot would have worked better without the extensive pp.
