Post-Processing:
Adjusted vibrance, clarity, fill light, and black in RAW.
Cropped, re-sized.
Extra Info:
If this chair, trunk, bed, or tattered cloth could speak, what tales would they tell?
These remnants are in a slave cabin that was owned by Iverson Graves. He had 31 slaves on his plantation in 1860. He is best remembered as an original trustee of the, now prestigious. Emory University.

The shot grabs me and jsut cries of the past. I especially like the use of shadows. Just a beautiful shot!

Bernie, congratulations on a fine photo. I didn't get a chance to comment before the close (still on the road). Great find!

A great shot - the composition, colour and light work very effectively to make this memorable.

Congratulations - I loved the signs of age - the muted colours, the torn quilt, the much used trunk - very evocative

Photographically, I liked both your entries but this one scored higher. Congrats on a fine second place finish!

Congratulations - I see by the comments that you were working under some restrictions - Double congrats for the result then!

I like the mood here, dark and somewhat mysterious. One of my faves.

Nice shot - very evocative. Displays like this always serve to remind me how lucky we are to live in the present day. Love the lighting.

The lighting does the trick here. Nicely done.

Thanks for the comments everyone. This was taken at Stone Mountain Park's Antebellum Plantation exhibit. No admittance to the cabin was allowed, so I had to shoot through the opened top half of a door. I first shot the whole room and realized it was too busy to make a good composition. I finally settled on this corner. The chair was in the way, but cropping it out cut off too much of what was behind it.

Very well composed, subdued lighting just adds to it.

I find that your composition adds to the mystery of these objects and the 'tales would they tell'. Well done and fits the theme perfectly.

Lighting is everything and this shows that more that most. I'm captivated by the trunk and the fabric - they are both gorgeous! the wood background is perfect. Not so sure about the chair. The quilt(?) and the rest of the barely lit background really pulls my eye away from where it should be in the foreground. Not sure how I would have handled that though. A very nicely done "feel" to this one but my sense is that it needs a little more focus (by staging objects maybe?) to really bring it to a superlative level.

This looks as though it should be in a museum. I can see people sitting on the side of the bed. Great lighting.

I would love to know the story behind the quilt on the chair.
