I thank you all for your votes and comments. Tried to come to the table with something original and it never quite works out as well as the concept. But it was all done in a half hour including the (not quite dressed) model who was a good sport -even if it was only one take! Lots of fun!

Well done Jade - you are inventive as always! Great job on the lightning!

Congrats Jade - I never was any good in the shadows - I apologize for my error!

NileLily Not sure they would like my title. Sometimes I miss my first camera, a fully manual no battery needed SLR; so long as you had film, it was always on and always ready.

ambaker I liked how the arcs turned out, too, thanks.

Excellent idea. I'm quite sure that if Panasonic made an Ad for it's batteries it won't be better. Wish you luck.

Creative take on the challenge. Excellent work on the electric arcs. very believeable.

    Thanks, mrsawyer.

Michael, all the shadows are real except for the figure which was "created" in PP by stretching the image of the figure among other things.

uno, thanks.

A+ for uniqueness! Good lighting, focus, and framing.

Was this an experiment to see if blondes have more fun? Seriously It looks like a very ambitious project. I like the oof AA's but the shadows look too fake for me. The lighting is very well done and it is certainly on theme. Congrats for giving us something very different. I forgot to add that I like the overall photo and it ranks high in my favourites.

Thanks, Lo. The composition was more intuitive than planned - I had to fit the shadows into the frame which also served to let me cheat a bit on the figure's shadow.

What a great composition! The placement of the figure and the batteries off centre works really well. Great job on the figure shadow! The curvature of the black background seems to envelope the components.

Steve T When out of ideas, improvise! The blur was unintentional though - see reply to elliott below.

fc Glad to see this seemed current enough to spark your interest.

My #1 choice. I like 'concept' photos where the photographer illustrates an idea - so much more creative than just finding something and snapping it. I like the spark between the two AA batteries, and the bit of blur to suggest they're vibrating. Good work!

the shadows as well as the sparks make this picture a high voltage contender

elliott, I think the out of focus AA's are a real problem. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until after the shoot and couldn't easily reset for another take. The one arm lit was a lighting (not lightning) issue but I was unsure of how to handle it so I left it as it was (the blown highlight is a result of the model holding a lamp in that hand which I needed for the high contrast lighting on the figure to mimic the off camera lighting on the batteries). [Edit] I should add I did the batteries in one take and the model in one take which should be a lesson -- Always shoot multiple images.

smart 'advert worthy' entry with room on the side for script.
(not a big deal, but if i was the adperson who commissioned you to do this, i'd ask you to get the double a's and the figure in sharp focus also... as your 'lightning bolts' appear as well defined lines. also only one hand and forearm appears lightened so i question that.)
that being said, high in my favorites.
