Post-Processing:
Converted from Raw, Sharpened, Luminosity, Saturation, cropped, re-sized, cloned out distractions.
Extra Info:
This six-year-old had a great time at the lake piloting this amphibious vehicle nicknamed "The Duck". Thus all the occupants were given quackers (which he proudly displays). His lesson lasted about three whole minutes!

Congrats mrsawyer - on the photo and for that not being water in the background - if it was, the boat was about to go over the falls!
Mepo - birdfeathers! - you broke my funny bone with that one - where do I send the bill?

Ok I've waited long enough - this one really quacked me up!

Very cute, but the blown out sky really screams "snap shot" to me. Needs more to bring the eye toward the subject and away from that sky and the too-bright life vest. Definitely great for the theme though.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I always try to make his outings with "Gramps" fun and still learn a lesson or two or three!
Jade - I would have cropped more seat, but opted instead to keep the only bit of water that was visible in the photo. Do you see the sunlight on the water showing just behind the life jacket and in front of the seat (just in front of the trees)? Well I thought it was water until today. Zoomed in and found it was part of the boat. Gees....
littlemav - You gave me quite a laugh at your "snorting tea". Let me know if I owe you a keyboard!
Mepo - A moving, bobbing amphibious vehicle with a shelf of life preservers just overhead. Yep, restrictive!
hifi - he talked about his adventure for a week!
forkcandles - I was one of the most obnoxious Quackers!
Lo - Fortunately I shot this in RAW and was able to rescue the details in the sky and punch up some color in the foreground.
elliott - glad I was able to bring back fond memories for you!

I'm guessing your location was restrictive or you would have taken the shot from higher up. The photo still puts across the excitement and will be treasured I'm sure. What a blast for a six year old!

All the personality in the world but ... I'm not sure this works as well as the promise. The framing is good, the background not distracting, the rule of thirds works well both in the horizontal and the vertical, and steering wheel and panel give purpose and orientation and set the stage for the eyes to tell the story, the lighting is deftly handled. So what keeps bothering me? Maybe it is the mass of grey seat back -- there is just too much of it. Cropping it out leaves the boys head perilously close to the edge of the frame. Tough shot to make from this angle. Maybe darkening the seat back by burning in PP would help. Such a great subject should make for a better shot.
