One of those photos that you can look at again and again, and get lost in it. You did a great job on this one.

Old Finn Not quite perfect, and not always good, but appreciate your feedback, believe me!

Steven T If only a little smoke and dark tones added drama to my personal life, lol! As to my professional life, like many, a little smoke and mysterious darkness is something you try to avoid!!!

Ronoz It was a challenge and I'm pleased it worked out as well as it did. The photo makes it almost better than it was.

ysal The smoke was a blessing and a curse. It gave a sense that half the battle, these soldiers must have shot blindly without seeing their foe. What you can't capture in one shot, is the regimented line firing a cascading volley, and disappearing in a wall of powdered smoke, then the next line advancing through the mist to the ready to fire again. That is truly spectacular.

LaRee, you're back! I'm so excited to see you again. Hope you've been well. We miss you!

Bill There were cameras there, how did you think I captured this shot? (Lol!) Thanks but a good deal of the credit goes to the re-enactors, the historians who preserve the site, and the good luck to be positioned well for the shot.

Very nice photo - the smoke and the dark tones make it very dramatic. Must have been fun to be there. Who won?

A challengeing scene to capture, but very sharp & good colours, well done for getting action on both sides , tt for me.

Such a dramatic shot, I love the rich colors here. Fantastic how you see the two lines of people, separated by the wall of smoke.

Very well done with this scene. The colors are good and the dark above adds to the mood of the scene. Too many good photos and too few spots for the great images.

I think that if there had been cameras there, it would have looked like this.

AG That click-bang you hear is my hand slapping my head before it dropped to the table...

sammy It would be possible. I could email you a full sized version ;-)

Lo O.k. I confess. I had to go back into my archives to enter a photo which wouldn't embarrass me; this actually was shot 200 year ago...I just colourized it in 2012; does that count?

fc Evidently taking the cannon is what got Brock posted on a monument.

elliott I don't believe it. ;-)

raf If I've learned anything from you, it is lighting isn't everything but it is 90% of what makes the shot.

Michael Ignore my comment to raf. If I've learned anything from you, it is lighting isn't everything but it is 90% of what makes the shot.

doto I'm humbled. I think your shot may well be the winner though.

Spectacular image. This image tells such a story, and I can almost hear the click-bang of the black powder rifles. Your composition, exposure, and color/mood is dead on! In my top picks! Good luck!

The battle scene is so realistic, it's hard to believe that it just took place in October. This is so epic in proportion that it deserves to be enlarged to fill a wall.

if he had not provided the music for the Moscow event www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0cpKzDoOdA
I am sure this would have been inspirational moment
for Tchaikovsky

love the lighting, believable colors, smoke against dark background. even though this scene looks a bit casual for some of the participants, i'll bet anyone there would love to have a copy of this photo. well done.

The choice of panorama and the way the smoke is lit, take this above a 'record shot' of the event.

The lighting is what makes this shot for me. It needs a bigger canvas for sure, the more I blow it up the more I like it. The composition is spot on - Excellent work all round! I'm still not sure if this qualifies for the challenge - datewise 1812 seems a bit off.

A classic battle scene, expertly done and reminds me of the vast canvases of such scenes in museums - in my top 5
