    Super shot, Jade! Great finish!

Jade - get used to shooting from a chair - yours is already on order LOL I think the FZ30 is lousy at anything over 100 ISO the noise and artifacts just bloom. It's my biggest beef about my favourite camera I use aperture priority and let the camera choose the speed, if it's high enough for the range of light I am faced with I just go ahead and start shooting. . Topaz denoise does an incredible job when I am forced above 100 and their dejpeg cleans up the artifacts and gives you an improved image that can be a lot smaller in size (helps me meet the 400Kb) You can try these for free on their site.

Thanks for your comments and see outtakes for more.

Lo/Mepo/mrsawyer It just looks difficult. My shooting ratio was about 50% and I only took about 14 shots in all. It was easy from the chair.

Technically, as you can see from the outtakes, I had all kinds of difficulty with Manual settings (probably my inexperience more than camera limitations.) I just went for high shutter speed, high ISO and crossed my fingers.

Two great shots Jade - I think this one is my favourite just because of the unusual angle.

Great shot Jade. Thanks for the explanation - you had me so dizzy on this one trying to figure it out I went back under the hood :-) You also must have a lucky charm to have him round the bend at the same time you were on the lift. By the way I love the way the red and blue play off each other too.

Points for you for the degree of difficulty! How many racers did you shoot in order to get this shot?
Having recently shot in the snow myself, I know how difficult it is to avoid overexposure! Fortunately, your blown highlights are in an area that is not too crucial.
Since there was no time to meter on the racer, did you meter on the flag or what?
In my favs.

I wrote more on this but the site was clogged and it was not accepted. No time left now but I do like it on many levels.

Old Finn - The overburn was deliberate, unless you mean the overblown, in which case that was purely my lack of familiarity with the range limits of this setting.

BarbroS - Thanks. See outtakes for more.

Lo Well first you need to learn how to jump....o.k, chairlift actually.

Otherways beautiful photo, but was it impossible to avoid that overburning of the snow? Anyway in my favorites.

Beautiful sweeping lines, great sense of movement. A favorite.

Nice action shot - love the angle. How did you do it???

oof - This shot was taken from the chairlift on my way uphill (see outtakes).

LaRee - Appreciate the informed comments - the FZ-30 has a tough time getting dynamic range in direct sun and especially at high ISO and fast shutter. Graininess was a problem - if I could do it again, I'd try 100 ISO with a wider aperture.

hifi - You are very kind but one of us I think will be surprised!

babysitter - There WAS a lot done to this in PP to get that tone in the snow while still preserving the other non-white colours.

fc - If you look closely you'll see the competition number on his leg.

jc - Thanks - sometimes a square-ish capture works and I really tried to eliminate all extraneous elements - hence the shot from the chairlift.

wow.. how did you take it from high angle?

Apr 7, 2013
This is much better exposed than your main entry and you don't have to worry about the skiers face being exposed properly in this angle. Very nice work.

If this does not win first place, I will be surprised!

A lovely photo. I like all you have done to it.

I presume a competitator. good view point

Good composition and I like the high contrast snow in this one. Well done.
