Perhaps what Degas would have had to do when he ran out of ballerinas?

Hi Franz07, Thanks for the lovely comment. I was puzzled when I saw your comment to Peanuts but had other things to worry about at that time, so didn't query it.
Now I think about it again it is obvious as her model in the previous challenge does look a bit like mine - well the grey hair anyhow! Good luck for today's comments when it closes in 55 minutes!

Hi babysister, congratulation on your fantastic double win!
...and sorry for me thinking he was Peanuts model. I wish him a fast recovery.

I thought WOW when I saw this, what a brilliant idea and stunning job.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. It was a huge surprise to me as they came rolling in. I really was not happy with the overall theme. One morning I woke up and saw the painting on the wall as i do every morning, and the brain clicked. My two possible ballerinas were away so I went the opposite way. Finding out how to change the background took over a day, and as JadeO pointed out I had trouble with the border of the carpet and background. How do I keep the hand steady for that?
The model was perfect for the shot and very cooperative. I'm sharing the glory with him!

I LOVE it - What a tremendous take on Degas's work . The attitude is just perfect, and the humour is wonderful.

My favorite for the idea, whimsy and technical product.

I took another look, and I recognize that I want to emphasize that I really do like your approach to the subject and the story your capture tells. Well done!

Congratulations, I guess we have a winner here!

I got a chuckle out of this, well done, wonderful interpretation & entry. I like how you've taken a work of art & changed it up so its not a direct copy. Have to add to favorites.

Nearly passed this by in the thumbnails but viewed large it is definitely among my favs...fits the theme, has humour and ticks all the boxes for me.

Absolutely wonderful interpretation and execution. As a shot it stands on its own merits, as an homage to Degas it is excellent. Love the lighting and tone as well as how you mirrored the clothes.

Jul 19, 2013
well done to include the idea as well.

Jul 19, 2013
Like it, and would have even liked it more without inclusion of Degas' actual work in the background.

Jul 19, 2013
Absolutely fantastic - love it. I'm still laughing too, that has to be good! Congratulations to your model as well.

Such a whimsical image, and wonderfully executed. Kind of a "Saturday Night Live" rendition of a Degas painting. I love it!

Jul 18, 2013
high in my favorites. adding the degas print almost looks like it belongs on the wall which give a whole new feel to your photo. composed well and pale hues work well. good luck. el

Oh, oh. O.k. Conceptually. This is good.
I mean really really good.
No. 1
Way way in a different league than any other image in this Challenge.
....wow. The realism plays against the animated quality, the posed element against the candid. If anything, too real for comfort. ...I'm a little awestruck. (Critique? Limited only to the actually technicality of photo finishing - not colour or lighting or composition which are perfect. So...the border of carpet and background is a little forced, the Degas a little pasted on, the figure a little too well defined-maybe a little touch of Ortonizing would help but be careful not to overdo it -- it would have to be unnoticeable but would need to be just enough to take the sharp edge off the figure without looking too cartoonish or out of focus. http://photography.about.com/od/developingandprinting/ss/ortoneffect.htm)
