Congratulations on the win. I liked this very much and it was in my top favs. It's well shot and most importantly, it's fun! Thanks.

Congrats, nice shot of the birds. "Stuff" on the pipe was a bit distracting for me.

Well done! - love the angle of the pipe across the photo, and the beautiful detail on the feathers. Normally I would say crop out the partial figures, but here it just suggests that this lineup goes on and on...

Terrific composition. the light reflecting off the black feathers is really lovely.

Good use of the diagonal. Would have been nice to avoid the partial birds on opposite ends of the pipe (but I have no idea how you could have done that without cloning them out). Love the lighting and focus. In my favs.

One of my favourites. Love the way every second gull is looking back at the camera as if to say,"get my good side".

Whites and blacks handled very nicely and you have a drawn out a lot of detail in the feathers and eyes of the birds. I like the diagonal arrangement and especially like the contrast of the two types of birds together.

The pipe goes across the lake. I didn't count the birds, but there are many. The angle of the pipe doesn't make it possible to shoot without cutting off some. If you include all of them you also include land, which this time of year really distracts from the birds. In hindsight I should have cloned out the partial bird in the lower right corner. BTW, the birds would miss the artificial perch(which is almost natural since it is covered with 'nature').

Nice clarity and composition. High interest. Great background. It is so good it almost makes me overlook the artificial perch. It still bothers me a bit though as do the two legless gulls in the foreground; not sure what a shot further back would capture but I'm guessing you have to make some tradeoffs.

Great photo. Super detail, well composed, just excellent!

Nice composition. The black birds (Cormorants?) provide an interesting counterpoint. I might have cropped out the birds with half bodies showing.

LaRee, Thank you for your comments. Gulls and sometimes cormorants and egrets sit on this pipe quite often in one of our city parks. Easy to capture since they are quite content to just sit there.

forkcandles, these are ringed-bill gulls. The black ring around the beak and white polka dots on their tail are their distinctive marks.

The detail you captured in the Cormorants is impressive. I like that the gulls are all looking different ways. Good depth of field everyone is sharp. Nice line up and good composition.

this may sound daft . but had you cropped the bird on the top left you would have had a nice sequence of heads looking the same way top and bottom.
question do the white seagulls have beak clips?
