Post-Processing:
From RAW. Adjusted levels. Reduced image detail & saturation (to soften). Reduced opacity at edge of frame.
Extra Info:
No lifeguard on duty. There was also a red flag flying at the beach so I guess swimming was not permitted. Cars and trucks are driving out onto the river not far from here where they spend the day fishing through the ice.

This was my top pick, beautiful image.

Thanks again everyone. It was especially satisfying to get support from so may people whose work I admire.

A fine shot with a refined sense of Canadiana to it. I see a lot of Pratt, Colville, etc., which is to say a sense of composition, subject matter, and presentation in the style of Pratt and other fine Canadian artists with this shot.

All that hard work slogging through the snow was worth it! Congratulations.

Thanks again for all the great comments - I checked today and there is open water at the beach. It amazes me how so much ice can disappear so fast.
An extra thank-you to Thomas for sharing his techniques.

Perfect for the theme with a real life white out effect. A favorite.

Beautiful shot, reminds me a little of shadow play. I really like this.

I appreciated all your comments. Delighted that so many of you liked the treatment. My first time out with this kind of process. I tried many variations but this one came about almost accidentally. When I subdued the detail in the station it was a eureka moment - everything seemed to work. Believe me babsister - you do not want to see the detail in the station LOL It is peeling paint, rusty nails and splinters.
Some mentioned perhaps a smaller image of the station - I thought so too and tried it but it did not turn out as well. It wasn't the smaller size - that might have worked - it was because I was up to my hips in fresh snow and could not get a similar view. Plunging through that stuff without skis or snowshoes is a lot of work. Also this was the only shot that captured that glow on the horizon which I thought best expressed the vast open space ahead.
Good challenge - a learning experience.

I like the way that just a hint of colour remains in the roof and support posts. The low sun adds a magical glow.

I think the high key in this landscape worked beautifully - I love the dream like atmosphere with the water in the background. A top favorite.

Really like the subject matter and the shades of gray. I would have considered a bit more distance between the station and the shooter (you) such that the station appears modestly smaller in the shot. It's the wide open vastness that's of interest to me.

A truly magical scene. Almost surreal. Extremely well done. I can see a big version of this on my wall! Good luck.

I love the subject but would have liked a little more detail in the building itself.

I'd have gone with a quarter frame more sky above and another third to the left side but this still is a fine shot.
