Thanks for the explanation. You got the bokeh o.k. and the subtle lighting is a deft touch. I'm just not such the sharpness is where you say but maybe it is my perspective. Something looks a little too soft to me, but it is a nicely done shot all the same.

Great perspective! A bit more brightness would have helped, but a great capture all the same.

Nice full frame image, it's just a bit dark and soft.

Jade: I was aware that DOF would be narrower, due to f2.8 at 300mm (I was only about 20 feet away), but the image is tack sharp where the focus was intended, i.e., on the squirrel's eyes and face. Perhaps as important (to me at least) was that I achieved the nice bokeh for the background that I wanted. If I had made everything in focus, I fear the background would have been a distraction.

great shot and well on topic
knowing how difficult these animals are to capture on the move did you have a reward waiting

A great shot in every way excepting the sharpness (or lack thereof). Tack sharp and you'd be my #1. As it is, I am reminded of tchyane's comment, "Rule #1. First your image must be technically perfect. If your shot is slightly out of focus, nothing can save it." (But you still made my top 5).
