Re the focal length - Bernie tells me "There is the actual focal length and a 35mm equivalent focal length. The focal length shown on Panachallenge is supposed to be the 35mm equivalent"
As for my reaction - my OMG was because I had just given myself a hernia by lifting the 1D. Please understand that this is no ordinary 1D, forkcandles equips his camera with two additional battery packs, four solar panels, two external flash guns, a wind up brass weather-vane and a gyroscope. Seriously - my first look through that lens reminded me of the first time I opened the back of my Speed Graphic and saw the scene on that huge ground glass - mindblowing.
Thanks again for commenting and a special thanks to Jade for the 1st place vote - That is going in the archives :-) |

It's not a boat but it is one of the best you've floated. |

Congrats Mepo! I love the balance here and the clouds on the right that help to add to the composition. |

Hi John: Thanks for the comments. The 1D and that amazing lens were courtesy of forkcandles who came over from the UK. We toured him round some Ontario hotspots as you might notice from his shot in Kingston. I'm glad the 1D is his because it weighs as much as a boat anchor. A real pleasure to use though! |

Had a feeling this was yours, where did you get the 1D from? Very well taken, love the sky and well done with the fire too! |

I've never seen the Parliament buildings look better - and I've seen them a lot of times! I think the low angle and the wide angled lens have really teamed up to create an impressive photo. |

Admirably realized architectural image - only a bit too severely face-on symmetrical for my personal taste, The perfect post-card. |

Dave & fc - Thankyou AG - On the photo the EXIF shows a 17mm lens which is what I was using, The EXIF info you see on the site is entered by the system. I've no idea where the 68mm came from. In the last challenge Jade drew attention to the shutter speed which was shown as 1/3194 with a 350mm lens. The EXIF on that photo shows 1/3200 and 41mm which I think is more accurate. Thanks for the comments. |

WOW, talk about an image with impact! This is certainly a well captured image. I'm sure this will finish well in the competition. It's certainly high in my picks! However, I have one question: your info states your lens being 68mm, and your extra info states using an extra wide angle... which is it? |

Phill - Thank you - appreciated. Jade - Thanks. I KNEW you would spot that LOL My attempt at a Trompe-l'œil - I discovered it by accident when I was cropping the photo to a semi panoramic shot. The lip of the fountain seemed to push out of the photo and add depth to it. So I tried to emulate it by adding a strip of grey similar to the colour used in the challenge. It works better without the thin black border that is applied to every photo on the site. |

I like the way this photo is so perfectly balanced and so sharp throughout. |

Maybe the best capital shot I've ever seen. Wow~! (Minor quibble, Not sure what that little grey bar is across the bottom though.) Started as my no.1 and stays there. Edited on Jul 12, 2014
