Where there's smoke there's fire       ©2014 RobertLavker
Panasonic DMC-GX7       3rd place, 186 points
1/125s, ?, ISO 125, ?, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Photoshop CS5.2; levels, shadows and highlights, transform - skew; crop, unsharp mask       Extra Info: I was concentrating on composing an image a fire hydrant at the edge of the picture, using a Minolta Celtic 135mm f3.5 telephoto lens on my Panny, when this individual appeared, propped his leg on the hydrant and began to smoke a cigarette. I could not resist capturing this image. Sorry for the run-on sentence.

My top pick, I thought it was a perfect example of the challenge theme.

It takes more than luck to capture a shot like this - Congratulations!

Thank- you all of you for the kind and helpful comments . As Lefty Gomez the major league pitcher once said , " I 'd rather be lucky than good". My entry clearly had luck on its side.

Really great narrative capture. Very impressed to read that it was not set up!

Nice use of edges. A little soft on the focus of the tie and right hand especially. Not wild about the crotch or sagging socks.

Looks like an old ad for cigarettes - great shot, perfectly exposed, love the anonymity of the crop

you had some luck here and the fact there is no identity it could be even a gangster with that tie.
had you not had the guy smoking then i would have used the blank wall on the right hand side and made the hydrant almost hidden in a corner

I like the fact you had the nerve to ignore the man's had and shoulders. I also like the the humour and the way both the man and hydrant are facing the same way. Really good!

I really like this shot. Great exposure and composition. I noticed there is a bit of halo in the edges due to post processing.
