Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I learn more very challenge we have.

There are 4 spiral staircases at our Melbourne State Library - one on each corner starting at the first gallery. I have been on them when I did a guided tour of the Library but they are now shut off to the public. They seems quite safe so I assume it is a book security thing.

Both the staircases and the statue have been biding their time just waiting for the appropriate challenge to come along and so it did.

An unusual view of a winding staircase! I like the play of shadows and light. In my favs.

I just realised that despite having this high in my picks I had not commented on it. This is just an excellent use of an edge to improve a photo. However I also love the tones in the shadows and the way they are projected on the wall. Are they really steps to nowhere - I've seen several spiral staircases blocked off because they were thought to be too dangerous - the cotton wool wrap brigade was in full cry I guess :-)

Good use of the edge. Nice interplay of shapes and shadows.

You have my top pick, great composition and lighting, well done. B & W is the right choice. ( From my reading of the Forum I think this qualifies as 'Edgy' but I must admit to not really having a good grasp on the subject)

Really great pattern study. You have a good eye.

I think you've made a photo out of something that would otherwise be nothing without the edge so you've nailed the theme.

    this works well
a minor critique would be to crop the shadow bottom left hand side. it drags the eye down when it should going across

elegant staircase; good subject choice. Bit more contrast could have accentuated the interesting shadow on wall and floor
