Thanks to everyone who voted - even if it wasn't for me. I had such fun trying to create an "impressionistic" image with just camera manipulation. I didn't think it was going to work, but many of the forum comments, the Internet links suggested, and the discussion with the challenge theme "expert" really gave me some great tips.

JADE: According to the EXIF date, it was actually a 3 second exposure, but yes - I attached an ND filter on the lens (I think a #8 or #10).

I vacillated many times about which of my two best impressionistic photos to enter, and at the last minute changed my mind -- which cause the problem with me (and only me) seeing both my entries for a brief period. I presume I made the right decision since my last minute choice did well. In the end, I thought perhaps that my first selection might have been a little too dark and somber - compared to my final choice - but I will post my previous selection in outtakes so you can see the difference.

I meant to ask how you managed this exposure with a four second shutter - ND filter or is it that f19? Anyway, kudos on second place!

The bit of red makes it for me.

You have achieved a nicely proportioned colourful impressionist composition. I like the inclusion of the figures very much.Your light background and absence of black are also authentic elements.

This one would have made my favs except for the horizontal streaks in the upper part of the scene and the bright streaks near the two people.

You are my No 1 fave entry.

To the beheaded red sweatered tourists, who seem to be on some journey through a pathway, forest or who knows what. Love the vivid colours, and the painternly look of the trees. This is definetely fitting of the challenge. Well done!

wonderful color, texture, figures and composition. Clone out that white sun spot burning on the left side of the image, and you'd have a winner!

Do your best impression of the impressionistic art style. This fits the topic well but I sense it would be better if the figures were a little less blurred.

Still very impressionist in the art style simply because it has

The appearance of quickly painted surfaces.
The appearance of short brushstrokes.
Separating colors and letting the eye's perception mix them.

As a photo, I like the "feel" and tone.

Superb - it has the feel of a Parisian Boulevard - love the 2 figures especially the one on the right. The way the light comes through the trees is great.

Hifi: I considered cropping the top, but then thought that it also added a feeling of painted brush strokes - which I wanted to retain.

Wonderful entry, scores very high in my voting! My only suggestion, is that you crop off the top 20% of the frame. It is distracting.

By the way - I like the image, it reminds me a lot of Paris.

It seems to same to me but you obviously are better qualified:-) Could you explain in more detail? If necessary I will download your original and make new thumbnails from scratch. Normally they are generated by the system when the entry is validated. Maybe send me an email so we don't clutter up your comments. mepo@panachallenge.com

At least on my computer, the image seen in full size after clicking on thumbnail does not match the thumbnail image.
