Drive wheel of an Series 3100 4-8-4 locomotive. When built in 1928 it was the most powerful loco in the British Empire. The wheel is 75" (1905mm) in diameter.

Thanks for the comments. I knew I needed something to represent the size but had nothing (no one) available. This great museum is now closed due to an asbestos problem and won't re-open for a few years.

I like the overall look of this one. The tint is great for this old metal. Would have been nice to have avoided the shadows at the top and left.

Interesting photo of the technology of past days. Hazelnut tint suits well to the pic.

(is there really a 'hazelnut' tint??) i like it. i've been trying to make some metal shots look more like brass but haven't come up with the right mix yet. i like what you did here. the wheel is so much bigger than it appears here.

Nice composition. You really don't get an appreciation for the size of the wheel from the image itself.
