Thanks all for the votes and comments.
(Bill, mariac, ysal, I went with the definition SteveBee put in the Challenge forum although I suspected it might cost votes in the end.)

Jade, I liked this shot a lot for the contrast, texture and angular movement. It just did not say 'landscape' to me. Otherwise, a fine photo.

My #1 pick - it brings industrial landscape to an abstract palette of colors and textures. An image I would frame.

This was in my top 3, I'm surprised it didn't finish higher. The colors and textures are wonderful.

fc Mepo I'm divided on bisecting the photo corner to corner...

some more contrast or levels to make the lines stand out and a crop on the top to have the stair case go from bottom to top.

Certainly on theme according to the clarification in the forum. I have to say it's a dull day and dirty subject but remember being given such targets along with the encouragement to find a good photo. My take would have been to make the stair divide the image from corner to corner or just take the lower two thirds alone. Both crops take away most of the dirty top of the tank. Kudos for taking this one on, it does at least give us some respite from the line of industry on the horizon.

Interesting shot that's definitely industrial, with processing that suits the subject. However, this image doesn't quite fit my definition of a "landscape".

I've seen similar shots to this but I don't get tired of it. The lines and colors are just fantastic, one of my top picks!

Lo The up and down side of minimalist;everything counts.
aoc46 I liked the snow capped weeds a lot. Glad you did too.
dk Not sure the horizon is off simply because I can't see it; the tank is cylindrical and there is a perspective shift with height.
Phil See note to Robert Lawker below.

Definitely industrial and minimalist, which makes the slightest alteration more prominent, like the pattern of stains under the stairs

The weeds are a good touch, adding color to what's otherwise almost monochrome; they also pick up the vertical stains on the tank. Very nice!

very good. And the snow on the stairs permits you to get the angle of shot (front on) I like best and still see each step. Horizontal slightly off, and with lines a critical part of this image, I'd fix that.

What a dilemma! Yours is a great photo - love the grid pattern of the steel sheets and the diagonal of the stairs and the whole grimey feel - definately industrial but not so sure if it is a landscape photograph?

eagle1 Absolutely spot on with your comments. On the one hand, this is something that I despise, a cliché image, one done a thousand times, nothing particularly unique. Google "stairs on oil tank" and check out the images and you'll see what I mean. By that standard, none of those images are unique, except maybe the very first one ever taken in the history of photography. But on the other hand, try finding an image which combines the stairs with the strong vertical element of lines on the tank - a little less cliché. Find one where the stairs twist - a little less cliché. Find one that looks like a flat surface with a straight diagonal stair which seems to twist on the flat surface (not on a cylindrical one) - a little less cliché. Find one where the twist is emphasized by snow build up - a little less cliché. Find one essentially taken in black and white (and rust) and "grounded" with a colourful set of shrub grass that's actually that colour - a little less cliché. So what do we have in the end? Is it a "unique" take on a common capture, or just another variation of a common capture? Is it a sunset on the ocean shot or a fresh look at what a sunset shot could be? The voters will decide that since my guess it really is more just another sunset on the ocean shot. But because I suspect many will think it is not a "landscape" shot (me included by the way but I went with Steve's explanation in the forum since I couldn't get the twist to be the subject of the image any other way), if for no other reason than that (and I'm sure there are other reasons!) I'm positive this won't be #1!

I've seen so many variations of this theme (stairs on an oil or water tank), but there are not enough (or the right kind of) elements in this particular entry to help capture my attention or imagination. It needs to show some unique, creative perspective, or interesting shadows, or magical play of light, or juxtaposition of other elements to surprise or tantalize my view. Please forgive me for being so blunt; I don't mean to disparage this image, because technically it is nicely done . . . but as it stands now, it is merely a rather plain "picture of a stairway on a water/oil tank" with not much soul. Of course - just my opinion. (Watch - it will turn out to be voted the #1 winner!! - LOL!)

Robert Lawker - I was waiting for that point of view. I relied on SteveBee's explanation in the forum:
"You certainly can have land in an industrial landscape -- but it's not required per se. See the photo I posted previously in this thread with no land in it. In this industrial landscape challenge, buildings, silos, smokestacks, tanks, and any other industrial form can stand in for mountains, trees, and landforms."
I was going to put that in the Extra Info but decided it was too close to advocating for votes so I left it out and expect to pay the price.
Elyod Thanks.
SteveBee Thanks, .... I think -- if you are rating on a scale of 10 then thanks a lot, lol! Also see RobertLawker's comment, so thanks for the help on the forum, lol!

I love the sweeping feeling of the stairs and the patterns; however, I do not think it matches the theme.

Simple and effective and the foreground grasses add a nice bit of framing.

Theme - 5
Technical - 4
Composition - 4 strong vertical line is interesting; weeds provide a contrast of color and texture, establish the base for image, add a natural note
Originality - 4
