Extra Info:
This straight main road is full of hidden dips and those forbidding trees and, as a result, is a notorious accident black spot . It is normally full of fast moving traffic and I needed plenty of patience before I was able to grab a few seconds to compose this shot. I did consider including a vehicle(s) but thought it would draw the eye from the main subject and lessen the impact. I would have liked to have moved into the road for a better angle but didn't feel that suicidal!

Thanks to everyone for your kind comments and votes. I was really surprised, but nevertheless, delighted to gain first place in my second challenge. I must admit to giving the location and subject much more thought and deliberation this time round, before pressing the shutter. I guess that is what the challenges are all about, helping us to improve our technique and output, with the help of tips and suggestions from other members. Thanks again.

I really like the way the eye follows the road in its "ribbon" pattern. A top favorite.

Really nicely composed. I like the ribbon-like road plus the beautiful trees. One of my top picks.

I don't know, I rather like this angle. I think it shows off the dips in the road better than if you had taken the shot from the middle of the road, as you intended. Anyway, it's always better to be safe....so good choice! This is one of my favorites.

The undulations and tree line would not be effective without the stripes on the road. Good to see you filled the frame with minimal sky - a wise choice.

Nice shot. I might have placed it higher had the horizon not felt tilted.

Well composed. Nice vertical curves in the road. In my favorites.

I like what you've achieved here; the trees look like spectators at a race track, gathered more closely at the bottom of the dip, in anticipation of a crash. Well lit and well composed. In my TT

Great composition. You've captured the undulations of the road beautifully, and the interesting trees on the left draw the eye right in.

not what i think of when i hear switchback. but always love hitting dips like these as speed (ok... yes, sometimes excessive speed). good shot for the theme.

Can't get much better illustration of the challenge than this. Love the way you lead the eye in.

The trees, dips and the low light angle all add interest without detracting from the road (I agree that a vehicle would have). The tree trunks seem a tiny bit over-exposed.

Beautifully composed, well exposed and perfectly focused. Right on the theme. I agree with moving a bit more into the road except I would have tried it. One has to give their all for the "Panachallenge". High in my TTs.

that is a seriously bumpy and steep road !
I like your (safer) viewpoint, and agree that an empty road was best. I also like the directional light.
my only comment is that it does not appear to be very sharp - though possibly an effect of the subject matter / brightness on the trees..

Good subject for the challenge. I tried one of these but it didn't work out. I would have liked a car in the distance so as not to be too obtrusive but understand your thinking. I had the same problem with my discarded one. Good definition.

great result on the no traffic. you were right on the vehicle would have been a distraction and may have knocked you down

Theme - 5
Composition - 4 Good lines and nice diagonals
Technical - 3 Somewhat overexposed highlights
Originality - 4 Good use of telephoto compression. Like the dips in the road and the way the trees overarch the road.
Overall impression - 4
