Extra Info:
This photo was not pre-planned but was a quick snapshot taken when I arrived at the scene just as the vessels were leaving the harbour. I am anticipating comments re the boring sky!

Thank you for your votes and comments. I'm pleased that many of you appreciated my attempt to replicate a "telescope" effect.

I'm not usually a fan of vignettes, but this one reminds me of a seafarer using a spyglass to view distant vessels. The old and new is obvious and well-presented. In my favs.

Suits well to the topic, but in my opinion the vignetting does not make it better. Anyway, in my favorites.

Great capture - it's not often a shot like this presents itself, and you did an excellent job of capturing it. The vignette certainly seems to create a union of the two vessels.

Sky is perfect. Nice shot especially in full size where the details really pop. In contention for my top pick.

The vignette creates a sense of seeing the boats through a telescope. Nice touch!

Great job meeting the theme requirements. It's a nice composition, especially considering the circumstances you described. Adding the vignette was a good choice for two reasons. 1)it makes it appear the viewer is looking through a spyglass and 2)it breaks up that godawful boring sky! ;)
It's one of my favorites, despite the sky.

I like everything about this image. Composition, lighting, focus is great and right on theme.

I added the vignette so it appeared that the vessels were being viewed through a telescope as Elyod and forkcandles have pointed out. Maybe I should have given the vignette a more pronounced edge to emphasise the fact.

I wouldn't have worried about the sky. I wish you had left it as I find the vignette a bit restricting . I love the vessels, and well caught.

The vignette is bit heavy-handed -- like looking through a tube.

Great shot, on theme and the vignette gives a nautical "telescope" view.

the mask makes it like you are looking through a telescope
the sky is not boring as the Kaskelot needs a plain sky to show off her rigging to the best advantage.

Very nicely done. There is enough in the scene without having a distracting sky and right on the theme.
