Congratulations on a great finish. As an ex-surfer, you had the right expertise to grab the moment

The wave looks amazing. I just wish the surfer was bit brighter and more vivid.

Thanks for all the kind words. I am very surprised with the finish, there were so many great photos in the challenge. In answer to mrsawyer, I am an ex-surfer, through stupid life choices (smoking) I can't surf anymore. Lo, I don't know about not being in harms way, that day we had really strong Santa Ana winds, probably 60 mph gusts. The sand pelts you in the back. I try and not point the camera into the wind. Bobby Martinez, the surfer, used to be on the pro world tour and is an incredible surfer. I am lucky that over the years of surfing and then shooting, I have met and gotten to know a ton of really hot surfers and quite a few pro surf photographers. When the waves are good here (during winter) we get a ton of the hot pros hitting the surf. It makes it easier to get good shots when the surfers are so good.

Again thanks for all the kind words, cowabunga!

Quite the action shot. The backlit wave is beautiful. A little lightening of the surfer would make it more outstanding.

Not at all easy. Sign up for the staff of Surfer magazine. In my top picks.

Great action, but the processing leaves this very flat and undynamic IMHO.

Nice composition - great light through the wave.

I'm sure I would have rather been with you and the 3000mm lens than on that wave, great capture.
