Canon EOS 7D       25th place, 29 points

Post-Processing: Crop and convert from raw in RT with various adjustments to a tiff. In PS using magic wand and dodge tool lightened the white of the sign. Sized and smart sharpened, saved as a jpeg for the challenge.       Extra Info: When I first started processing the pic, I noticed the vertical lines in the sign and didn't know what to think. Was it my camera, my computer adding those lines? I went and looked at the sign and they are there. Now when ever I look at the traffic signs around here, they all seem to have them.

Good eye. The true vanishing lines will be the edges of the sign which we presume to be square. The sides of the post do not produce lines that lead to a vanishing point since they are not parallel.
The lines in the sign are part of the reflective material used for road signs. They are designed to reflect light coming from various directions so that the sign is highly visible no matter what your angle of approach is. The material is expensive.

Nice capture. The angle is great, lots of detail (including the stripes in the sign) and a great sky. In my faves.

nice shot of a common structure. I can almost sense a little dizziness when I "look up." sky a bit oversharp imo. You're right: isn't it interesting the things we notice when we stop and take the time to look...

An interesting choice of subject and while a VP is suggested, the subject, colour, and sky, all seem to me to work against one another.

I believe all traffic sign have this effect as it is more reflective at night. I like the clouds here and the perspective is good too, however the sign seems a bit big, it takes up close to half the image.
