Post-Processing:
Combination of two shots to eliminate background clutter. Crop, adjust contrast, brightness & sharpness. Some Dodge and clone to remove distractions.
Extra Info:
1929 Belanca Pacemaker. This model of plane was the first to fly the Atlantic in both directions in 1930. Another of the same model was fitted with a Packard Diesel engine and set an endurance record in 1931 of 84 hrs and 33 min without refueling. This record was not broken until the flight of the Voyageur in 1987! The one in the photo served for 33 yrs as a bush plane among other roles.
Vintage by date and characterized by excellence.

This was my top pick. I really like what you have achieved with the combination. Thank you for sharing in the outtakes.

I like the idea and the subject. I wish I could see more of the wingspan.

Thanks for the comments; I try to learn from all of them.
This was a last minute effort as I'd taken my wife out to a vintage tractor pull and once again she got the best shot of the day :-( So I shot down to the museum and got a photo of this bird as I thought with it's incredible history, it might at least be more interesting than another tractor pull shot.
I understand that the definition of 'Vintage' for cars and planes etc is that they had to be manufactured before 1920. After that date they become 'Classic' This plane met that definition without having a lot of rust or decay. (I do realise that 'Vintage' can have another definition as in - 'the best of . . . ' - and I thought that this plane also had that vintage value.
So the day before the challenge ended I faced the task of 1. cutting this plane out from the museum photo and 2. finding a suitable background from a shot taken during the challenge period. I was lucky to have this shot with a beach and the sun in the right position to match the shadows on the plane.
I guess I could have converted everything to Sepia which might have helped with the 'fakery' but I loved the colour scheme of the plane. That's how these planes were painted in service with the Canadian forces when used for photo reconnaissance and mapping.
I nearly went blind cutting the plane from the background, especially all the wires etc under the aircraft (dark wires against a dark background). You may notice I completely missed the top step of the ladder on the far side. Placing the plane on the background was a major challenge. I even 'landed' the plane on the lake several times and then 'dragged' it onto the beach the way we used to handle float planes in the bush. I know it's not perfect but I ran out of time and enthusiasm :-)
This was a great learning experience and I hope I can do better next time I combine two images. Happy to see some enjoyed the history of the plane. I can't imagine how scary it would be to fly this across the Atlantic even today!

Interesting subject matter; nice job with the PP. Overall the scene feels a bit too uniformly lit - maybe needs more contrast?

It will be interesting to see the 2 images you used, maybe share after voting. Interesting find on the theme, and I enjoyed your write up on the history.

I like it but wish the whole plane was in the shot. The plane has that "floating" look.

Cleverly put together, unusual subject that is on theme.

WHy did you cut this off??
Processing could of been enhanced by adding vintage tones, this is rather dull as is and I say that in the nicest possible way :)
