Thanks to all for the comments.

Babysister, the spot is Silver Strand Beach, Oxnard, CA. It is where I live. The beach here is located between two harbors, Channel Island Harbor, and Port Hueneme Harbor. CI is a marina, and PH is a commercial and navy port with big ships coming and leaving. This is the north jetty at the entrance to Port Hueneme. There is a ship wreckage still located there and remnants can still be seen of the La Jenelle. You can google La Jenelle and there are quite a few articles and pictures of our area.

Again thanks to all for the kind words.

Definitely brings the sound of the sea to mind. I am curious as to why you chose B+W. Lots of great detail.

I spent ages taking this photo but happily did not enter it. Yours is much better! Where were you?

clever shutter speed set up. B&W is smart here, as I don't see much shades of color are available in this shot.

Superb wave shot. Heaving with energy and crashing onto the rocks simultaneously makes an amazing capture. Love the high contrast in Black and white.

Thanks for the comments. Must be the clarity of my 3068 mm lens. It is actually my 400 mm. For some reason this site never gets this lens right.

aoc, maybe a slower speed, but I have taken many thousands of pictures of waves breaking, hitting the beach, being surfed, I like to see the detail, the splashes individual drops instead of a blur. To each their own, but most of the time I like to see the detail of the water.
Also I don't own a filter for this lens, it's known to be touchy with filters and for a decent nd filter 77 mm would not be cheap. If I had wanted more blur, I could have lowered the ISO to 100 and shot at about 1/320, any slower and it is hard to keep details, like the rocks sharp even with its IS. It is a very old designed lens!

Mepo I decided to use black and white, the sky and ocean that day weren't very vibrant that day, kind of the norm here. The pic was almost b&w from the get go.

Nice - definitely captures the roar and crash of the waves. A slower shutter speed, maybe with a neutral density filter, could make the spray more 'real' looking.

Wow! A great shot which is right on theme, and with so much detail. definitely my top pick.

Right on! B&W is kind of risky for this but it works perfectly. Love the contrast between the slightly oof surf in the foreground and the sharp detail in the spray. This one makes me feel homesick - no surf where I live now. High in my picks.
