cropped, levels adjustment to bring out plumage, increased contrast, USM, selective noise reduction
Extra Info:
I think the lighter hues in the upper half balance the darker ones on the lower half. The reflection helps to balance the subject.

Lovely detail in the eye and feathers and nice reflections and framing.

Nice capture of the duck. Balance might be slightly improved by positioning the bird a little more to the left and a little lower in the frame.

From balance perspective I feel that it is almost there. If the duck were slightly more centred, especially on the horizontal line, it would be more balanced. However this isn't a photo totally out of balance because I do think the tones in the water do help with that. Your focal point is not the subject of balance and as per your description the balance is the tones in the water, which would make this a symmetrical balanced image as you are using almost equal sized ripples to balance. The problem is the duck and focal point is there but due it being in the middle of the image, the composition tends to be a bit ordinary.

good effort maybe a tighter crop.?

It's a close up of a largely centered subject. I wouldn't say it represents an example of balance per se. There's really nothing for the duck to balance with and I don't think the reflections or hues give it more or less balance.
