John: Thanks. I actually like the big flakes, it's all part of beautiful walks in the snow for me. Different strokes etc :-)
NEAT: Sad yes, but overthrown by seeing her fight back - I have so much respect for her courage. I still appreciate that you sensed that feeling.

Sorry to hear about your friend that's really sad and now I'm guessing I understand why you called the photo what you did. I still really liked this, it was in my top three.

Congrats with your TT, I've tried snow falling many times and
never really liked the results. You are the master of cloning though
and I think the blurry snow flakes could have been dealt with.
At least the real blurry ones.

Very evocative shot of nature's challenges, and right on theme.

Thanks for all the great comments.
NEAT: I agree but I don't know of any technique for getting photos in rain, snow or fog to come out sharper. It's all those annoying bits of moisture between the camera and the objective that are the problem :-) I used the Eskimo bone snow goggles when I was up North but they didn't increase the sharpness, they just kept my eyelids from freezing up.
I titled this for a good friend who is battling cancer. When you think that this little tree is surviving against the odds; as is my friend, then a sense of triumph rather than sadness might evolve. Your observation was very astute and much appreciated. She loved the photo but did have a tears in her eyes.
dk: No snow on the lens. I use a deep lens hood that acts like the Eskimo snow goggles. The close-up snowflakes are simply way out of focus.
aoc46: Good eye. I thought this might be light from the sun but its, probably from the fx filter (my first time using it).
Johncomyn: Same as my comment for NEAT. I'm still looking for that special technique to arrange the falling snow in layers. Do you have to live close to a nuclear reactor to enable that filter LOL

Snowing eh. Nice mood and comp, just find the blurry snow flakes in the front distracting.

Winner image and wonderful composition.

that's some heavy weight snow there.
great shot of survival

Nice composition using Rule of Thirds, but I'm bothered by the halo around the tree. While the fuzzy snowflakes add to the mood of the scene, they might be more effective as directional lines at a slower shutter speed.

looks like you have a little snow on the lens, which I like. I like the snow pattern and how it enhances the mood.

An interesting scene. The falling snowy gives a nice effect. Compositionally well done too.

This makes me feel sad, it's the snow. Could of been a touch sharper IMHO.

Certainly conveys the mood well. Good composition.
