Jade, I had no idea! Thanks for the info. I'm more learned than I was before this challenge.

I just wanted to congratulate you on your top ten finish - glad I did, because I see now that you were the subject. Well done. I wouldn't trust that Panachallenge card too much - I've heard it has a dodgy membership :)

Wow, a powerful self portrait. Your title now seems less than offensive, as I first mistook it. You know I for one felt a little smug in Canada, felt things were different here, despite the insight I had based on my own life experience, until our most recent incident in Ottawa wiped away any remaining smugness. I am more cognizant now, that the issue of police abuse of power knows no borders. I have seen the shift from the default position of trusting police to the default position of suspecting them, not least in my own attitude borne of experience. There is an institutional and cultural issue in policing in my part of Canada that is only starting to be addressed; I do not think it different in kind than the same issues that you will find in any police force in any American city, but only in degree; and it was not always this way. Policing has changed perhaps because of, not in spite of, the changes we have seen in society at large, but we are all brothers, truly, and have the same reason to take notice. What happens to any one of us could happen to any of us, even though some are now disproportionately targeted. It is a huge problem, which so far, seems barely addressed and many deny it exists at all.

Oh so that's you in the photo? Very cool.

I actually went to the bridge to shoot the lake. After taking several shots of the lake, I decided to use the timer delay to add myself into the frame. With all the shootings of unarmed black men in the US news lately, I could not help but worry a little about my safety.
There were no problems though! I had my Panachallenge business card ready, just in case! (I don't leave home without it.)
Thanks for the votes and comments.

Intriguing image but troubling title.
I really like the non-conventional framing which makes a dull mundane scene exciting. I'd fix the amber cast. Kudos for the effort. My #7.

Interesting portrait. Perhaps better if the man had been the main subject, the background on the right doesn't add much.

An interesting shot. Leaves me wondering what his story is. The composition adds to the tension. In my faves.

The exposure and detail here are really good. I feel that the subject is a bit crowded to the left, but that you probably did not have the option of shooting from another angle. In that case, I would suggest cropping the top and right side, even if it is at the expense of losing the radio tower and reflection.

I like what you did with the subject so close to the edge, I only wish you had just given a little more room for him on the left side. Not a bunch, just a little more.

great shot. Despite the color, elicits a feeling of noir. Though I might have burned out the ramp to the water...bit of a distraction to the otherwise unusual geometry of the objects

You have captured loneliness perfectly. Vert powerful image. Well done.

Intersting idea - good that you didn't try to white-balance the guy's shirt; the yellow color reinforces that we're seeing him under a streetlight. However, I find him too close to the edge of the frame; seeing a bit more of the road would give a better feeling for where he is. More shadow detail on the right would help balance the image.

I love this concept image, whatever the situation was. The may seems a bit too close to the edge, but still high in my TT.

interesting night shot... well lit the timing of the car coming down the road is a nice touch... in my top 5

Usually 3 exposures would be used to create an HDR image, but I don't see any any more tonal range than would be available in a single exposure. I don't think the unconventional composition works here.
