  #175 Leading Lines
Entry 5 of 23
Dry Dock       ©2016 jomari
Panasonic DMC-FZ70       4th place, 116 points
1/1600s, f2.9, ISO 160, 23mm, Landscape, Pattern, no flash
Post-Processing: Duplicate layer, black and white luminosity blend, increase detail, increase saturation, flatten. Select boat, increase saturation, select top of sky, increase brightness and contrast, select small area of blue sky and reduce saturation, duplicate layer hdr smooth blend mode lighten, sharpen edges, flatten, image size.       Extra Info: After shooting quite a few leading lines shots I spotted these boats and took a shot between the fence bars. The lines may not be as interesting as in other shots but I prefer this on the whole.

Jade O, thank you again. A visual feast! I will explore further via Google.

Frame the image, it deserves it! (Or commission a painter to put this on canvass. I'd hang this one anywhere, I really do like it that much.)

On the subject of artists, we have some excellent ones, still living...

Jade O. Thank you very much for the comment (which I'm tempted to frame and hang on my wall). Particular thanks for the links. Truth be told I am more into art than photography (on another site, at least, I need to wash my mouth for saying such a thing). I was ignorant of the artists and works that you have directed me to and I am happy to have had my education broadened. I also really like Akebono's Adventure Ahead (and again, I was, till now, unaware of it). So thank you again.

Sorry about the multiple tries to get the url's to show properly. This really is one of my all time favourite Panachallenge entries. A real treat - I'd frame and put this one on my wall - no question!

Now that I read the PP (which I find helpful by the way LOL!) I can see you really have done something special to achieve this look. With due respect to those who suggested HDR, to me this is so much more than that. Google some of my favourite Canadian artists like Pratt, and Colville but even more than that, this evokes a style of one of my favourite Panachallenge entries (and an award winner in a photo competition), Akebono's Adventure Ahead.

    I like the painterly effect.

A good sense of light and colour, an image with much to interest the eye and of course, the leading lines are there....

In my favorites in spite of the strong contrasts which I feel a bit too strong.

The leading lines on the dock of course lead my eyes to the boats (especially the brightly-colored one on the left). Then I find the masts, leading my eyes upward to the stunning sky. Wish I could see what post-processing you did here! (I'll have to come back after voting for sure.) In my favs. In my subscriptions!

When I first looked at this photo, I thought it was overprocessed, but the more I looked at it, the more I appreciated the level of detail and the variety of lines leading the eye toward the centre. High in my faves.

I like the scene but am not a fan of the HDR effect.

This has all the hallmarks of a subject for a photorealism painting, and you have good perspective and colour; nicely done.

your entry choice looks fine when we see the outtakes than i might change my mind. you have all the elements here

being a sailboat guy I find this an interesting image ... looks like it may have some HDR in it.

Aug 27, 2016
Rails, boats and masts combine for intriguing geometries. I find the contrast a little harsh. Nice color, esp. the abstract paint over-spray in the foreground.

Slightly over cooked in HDR but I like the effect. In my TT.

A good idea; however, with all of the masts and tracks on the floor, the image is quite busy, which detracts a bit from the leading lines.
