Extra Info: I found this impressive fungus when walking in the woods.
I wondered if the brown of the fungus was derived from the brown of the rotting tree, or just a coincidence.

I would have thought that this would have done better. I love the entire picture, concept, etc.

It's lovely the way the mushrooms echo the rich browns of the rotting trunk. Great detail and lighting.

I really think this is lovely. Beautifully rendered, not a thing I would change.

How interesting. The fungus colours mimic the host tree perfectly, don't they? In my tt.

Perfect match of colors, both greys and browns. I suspect the brown color match is purely coincidence, but then again, I am not a mycologist. Nicely composed and perfectly focused. Great job.

Great photo, sharply defined. It might be at the bottom of the tree but it's certainly not at the bottom of my shortlist.

I think objects are blending in too much here.

Very nice documentation of this shelf fungus, which may be Heterobasidion annosum, or annosum root rot. If so, rather than "Life from Decay," it's more the other way around, as the fungus is killing the tree. In any case, its color probably is mainly derived mostly from its host, so it may not be the best example of a coincidental color match. Good photo, though.
