Extra Info: The original castle on this site was built in 1268 to defend the local town and area. It saw extensive fighting over several decades. In an all out attempt to conquer the castle an army of 10,000 men laid siege to it in 1316 but failed to breach its defences, although much of the surrounding town was destroyed. Its usefulness as a defence diminished, and by the 15th century it was gradually vacated. Subsequent owners kept up maintenance, but this more or less petered out by the end of the century. Its eastern gatehouse was used as a prison.

Over the next 200 years the castle fell into disrepair and many of its stones were robbed to build local mansions and houses. Cromwell decreed that the castle be slighted. The damage caused resulted in the famous 'leaning' south-east tower, which can be seen today.

In the late 1700ís the castle was acquired by a wealthy nobleman. His descendants embarked on its 'great rebuilding'. Restoration of the Castle began in the late nineteenth Century and continued until 1950 when it was given to the government and is now a popular tourist attraction.

I voted this rather highly! I was probably swayed in my opinion because I've been there before. Seem like just a few years ago, but as I ponder it, find it was 20 years ago! Glad to see it is still standing - and leaning! I like the reflection, even though you had to make a trade-off in your framing.

Thank you very much all for the kind comments :-) .

I put the castle high in the frame thinking that the size of the reflection would balance it in peoples eyes.. If not then it would still be on a vertical third but I can see what you mean. I'll try and re-crop it.

The rich colour and detail in the photo really show the age of this old castle. I feel as though the castle should be more centred to bring it more into prominence, possibly by cropping a bit off the bottom.

I like this but would have cropped out more of the water in the foreground, although you would lose the swan, but I think it would give the castle more impact

Yes, Rare for this time of year :-) .
It would have been fascinating (and scary) to see it in action.
The castle tower out-leans the Pisa tower by more than twice as much!

Nice colours - a rare blue sky in Wales?! ;-)
Must have been an amazing place when it was fully functional.
Shame the foreground swan would not cooperate by being a bit more visible!
That leaning tower is great.

    Sorry about the halos.

Steve - I put the castle high in the frame thinking that the size of the reflection would balance it in peoples eyes.. If not then it would still be on a vertical third.

I like the colors however I do see some halos suggestive of over saturation. The castle seems very high in the frame which feels unnatural and top heavy. The little bush and duck are not sufficient to balance the mass of the castle.

Nice color and composition, great choice of historical subject. A bit heavy tone-mapping has produced halos around the castle towers.

Thanks very much Anthony. Yes, I's a shame he wasn't a bit more prominent. I did consider cloning some birds in but thought better of it. I tried a version with some railing in that corner but decided on the swan in the end. Yes, I darkened the blue in order to match it more closely to the colour of its reflection.

Interesting castle and I like the leaning tower. The swan hiding behind the bushes is pity, I am looking for some foreground interest. I assumed you dropped the highlights or reduced the luminance of the blue color to make a sky bluer, this has created 2 problems. The bright blue in the sky doesn't look right.... it is just too blue. Secondly your processing has caused a strong halo around the castle which I am not sure really works.
