Congrats Dave! glad you finished high, despite my non-voting :-( the image is fine, and now I can read how much effort you put on this - thanks for sharing your setup, very interesting, well done! :)

Dark and mysterious is what I feel here. I hope it is the feeling you were after!

Beautiful lighting conveys the gentleness and serenity of Buddhism. Top 3.

Evocative, but a little dark for me. I might have lightened the face more.

dodrizz: One thing that is certain, is we all have a personal view of what makes a good image and fits the theme.
As for the setup/settings... I did use a black drop cloth in a darkened room (garage) with the only light source from a distant window which accounts for the long exposure time. The camera was set at 300mm to keep the depth of field shallow as I wanted the pagoda out of focus and not competing with the buddha head, I started with the pagoda about 1 foot behind the head but it seemed to big, moving it back 5 feet made it smaller and more out of focus.

Interesting image. Sadly out of my top ten at the end, a difficult choice because yours fit the theme nicely too, well done :)
Apart from that I'm really curious about your exposure settings here, almost 300mm focal, and 4 sec exposure at f8 and still such a dark background... is it a night scene? Or did you used an actual black background? I would like to know more about it, the look you got is interesting :)

You have done a beautiful job of composing and lighting this shot. The blurred temple figurine in the background really adds depth to the photo and the coloration you have achieved on the Buddha really adds interest.

Simple composition and subdued lighting -- no distracting elements. In my T5.
