Extra Info: This ceiling rises from beneath the floor in the form of a 40 foot high circular funnel. This then fans out and forms six elliptical undulating domes covering 43,000 sq ft. The ceiling is made of a metal skeleton that is lined with over 131,000 feet of Western Red Cedar wood from Canada. It feels like you are walking underneath a gigantic flat topped mushroom!

Thank you all so much. really pleased you like it :-) .

mrsawyer - I didn't take a wide angle shot as I knew what I was after but I will post one of my SOOC shots which is somewhat wider. Two of my links below show other peoples wider views of the ceiling.

Do you have a wider view you can share in the forum? Great find!!! Good lighting and focus.

I can't even begin to imagine the skill and patience that went into building this ceiling. It's awe inspiring, and you have done a great job in capturing it's beauty.

Certainly a spectacular ceiling. I feel a bit seasick looking at it.

This is playing all sorts of crazy tricks on my eyes!! It's hard to tell if some parts come in or out of the page, and the thumbnail image looks very different from the large image. What is this building?

Thank you both very much for the kind comments :-)

aoc46 - It's impossible to photograph all of it at the same time but this shot should give you more of an idea.

The 'column' of the mushroom is designed to provide natural cooling to our government that sits beneath it.

Very impressive curves, well-composed and shot. It's a little hard to "read" how the pieces fit together ( i.e., how the column fans out to domes), but still quite striking.

What a beautiful juxtaposition of curves and lines. I love the abstract feel that this image conveys. Nicely composed and lighted. High in my favs.

Yeah, I had trouble with those parts. I would have liked to have shown you this photo at a much larger size which hopefully would have reduced the moire. I left that part in the corner to show how the ceiling continued. Maybe I should have made it larger or cut it out all together as you suggested.

Very interesting ceiling. It is actually tricky I think to find a good composition with lines running in so many directions as this. There are some moire patterns noticeable on the right side and the small triangular area on the lower left corner calls attention to itself in a way that doesn't help the composition (I'd crop it out). Otherwise, a good composition.
