    Thanks, Gardengirl.

Congrats on 1st place. I've looked at the outtakes and I like it best with the eggs. To me it tells a story, the ingredients ready for a meal to be made and the flowers ready for the table.

ysal Thanks and for hosting. I have posted in Outtakes for you.

Bernie Studies? I just threw this on the table and snapped a shot quick! ; )

Lo Link is up. Onion into a work of art...don't make me cry! (Thanks)

    Congratulations on a beautiful entry!

This was my #1. (as it was for many others obviously) It is good to see your studies of light and composition paying off in such beautiful photography.

I am looking forward to seeing the link. As far as I'm concerned, you have always had a fine touch with still life photos, going back to when you turned onions into a work of art in Challenge #80. Congratulations on a great shot.

Well thanks to all for your votes and comments. Ranking ahead of Steve's shot is an achievement in itself. Kudos for Steve for putting me here with his first place vote vs my third place for his entry. It was very close points wise.

Bill Wonderful to get your comment. I bet your writing would be an interesting read. So much we could talk about if we got to together and so much I'd love to hear.

jomari Appreciate your supportive comments and I agree I like the Open entry far more.

babysitter Well I looked at your entries and couldn't find my comment, : ) but for the secret, one theory is in outtakes. As to how I did the lighting on this and the open entry, I relied on an technique I have used before often. Dark room (night), table lamp with clear bulb (not frosted), cereal box liner as a diffuser, or two or three....move the light to different positions until you get what you like, camera on tripod, try different shutter speeds and pick the one you like. This way you can control everything and change one little thing at a time if needed. See outtakes.

fc Others thought the eggs should go, I am in the middle, see outtakes.

Thivi Thanks, I thought perhaps there was too much contrast which is one of many reasons why I prefer my open entry, but pleased to receive your comment.

Good for you! Nicely done. I am just chillin' inside and doing some writing. Not very inspired right now to take pix. Good to see you around.

Congratulations Jade. Such a beautiful entry (I like the other one even a little more). I know from trying that it is not easy to make all of the elements come together in such a pleasing way so I appreciate your success with this genre.

Congratulations Jade! When I try to use black I get told to lighten up a bit. (by you). What's the secret? This is my favourite lighting.

stand out winner It was the eggs that made it

I like your lighting very much, with deep black and nicely lit objects

GardenGirl I'm so pleased you liked it; it is more complex to set up than I thought and I am still not fully satisfied with the choices I made...maybe another vegetable rather than eggs or perhaps boiled eggs unshelled and sliced...more salad than omlette?..but I didn't like the idea of adding a yellow to the palette of red green blue and brown.

jomari Pleased to have your thumbs up on both entries though I personally like the Open entry best.

babysitter Mepo has a detective protégé! Thanks for the thumbs up.

Beautiful still life with well controlled lighting and choice of subjects and colors. My #1.

May 17, 2020
I love this. You have done a beautiful job with the light and the composition and you have assembled a lovely collection of subject matter.

    Got to be Jade? Beautiful.

Lo A thoughtful perspective...I would be interested in knowing if the link I post in outtakes changes your mind after you've seen what a good photographer can do with flowers.

cookiejar So pleased you like it! Not so sure everyone does. Actually I threw this together at the last minute grabbing what was handy in the fridge...but I still put thought into the composition...see outtakes.

I like your technique - the lighting and colours are lovely. I think the still life would have been better without the flowers as they create a separation, both in type and because they are vertical as opposed to the horizontal perspective of the rest of the items

May 17, 2020
Clearly a lot of thought has gone into this composition and lighting. I love it. good use of that extra time.

ysal Thanks. You may be right about the eggs; I did this in a rush, set it up at 11:00 p.m. the night before entry deadline so I just grabbed stuff from the fridge and threw it together. I should have toned down the whites on the eggs, lettuce and onion since they are a bit harsh.

aoc Very witty! I saw the open comment and thank you for taking the time for both...and getting me to smile...

Old Finn Thanks. I like them both but I like the Open one more. This needs a little more work...see above comment to ysal.

Robert Lawker Appreciate the view. I always wonder when someone doesn't vote for your entry but you have no comment so you learn nothing. I did this at night and in my monitor looked about right but then I like dark images with light highlighting the subject(s). It is not a universal taste and given more time, I could work this a bit to make it lighter.

fc Thanks. I liked the colour too for a darker image.

Nicely done. I may have stuck with just the vegetables.

See my comment on your Open entry, but sorry to hear that one of your favourite photographers was shot in the kitchen. ;-)
