Panasonic DMC-ZS3       10th place, 48 points
1/30s, f4, ISO 100, 63mm, Normal Program, Pattern, flash

Post-Processing: converted to sepia and added vignette using color efex.       Extra Info: My mother will be ninety years old in September. She is a very remarkable woman. She was ophaned at 15 years. She raised 4 childen alone from the time the oldest was 9. She worked well into her seventies. She has 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and can tell you the birthdate of each. She keeps a map and marks it when any of her brood travels though she prefers her own recliner. She lives alone and drives herself to store, doctor, etc. But never on the freeway. Thank goodness!!

Thank you for all your kind comments about Mother. I feel that I must explain about the vignette which nobody liked. This photo was made the day before Mother's day. My sister-in-law commented to mother that she needed a haircut. I hurriedly tried to obscure her hair in the photo. Obviously a mistake. One thing that she doesn't do is the internet, so she would never have seen the original anyway.

Nice portrait, I like very much her expression. Unfortunately won't be in my TT because I don't like the vignette you added, it makes an strange effect on her hair that is very distracting for me. I suppose the background is busy and you had to do something with that...
Anyway, let me wish to your mother that I hope she will have a lot more years to keep on enjoying such a rich life!! Absolutely remarkable woman as you said, perfect life work well done, Mummy! :-)

Beautiful portrait. I think the vignetting could be adjusted better though.

Nice photo of a remarkable lady. I imagine those kind eyes have seen a lot of history. I wish the vignetting had not obscured her hair.

Nice photo, definitely reflects passage of time, amazing still able to drive. Sure she has seen alot of changes as time has passed.

OK, I've got it now. It's the vignette cropping her hair that disturbs me. For some reason I didn't know exactly what my concern was when I wrote my first comment.

Love the face and the sepia brings her out wonderfully without losing the glint in the eye that goes with your tale. It is obviously a face that has seen the passage of time, faced it head on and still had time for a smile. I love faces so much. The heavy handed vignette is a bit of a downer for me. The face will be enough to get the shot in as an early favourite but the vignette may mean it drops out.

Nice photo of Mom! I think the vignette detracts more than it helps though.

Seems like a remarkable lady and the portrait is a very flattering one. I find the PP effect awkwardly applied though and perhaps may have been more effective if opened to a wide oval or coloured as dark as the background which may have left the portrait emerging from the background bathed in light rather than competing with the border for luminance.
