Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Those eyes!!

So it was marmalade! Shows how much I know! Thanks Jade for explaining how you did Lucy's eyes. It's far too complicated, and too much like hard work, for me! I'm surprised it didn't make the TT.
I really appreciate your comment on my poorly placed duck. I'm very proud of that shot and I was gutted when I saw how badly it did. I don't understand why it finished so low down. Maybe I'm out of touch with what voters look for.

Thank you all for your votes and comments.
dodrizzt I could have done more with just the eyes but I had to try for the whole enchalada! Thanks for commenting.

Plenty of originality here :-) no doubt you did a great PP job to match almost perfectly the song lyrics... specially charming what you've done to the girl's eyes, wow! And I'd liked to see even more marmelade in the sky... :-)
Competence is very hard this time, but your pic wil be high in my TT, great job!

Thanks slieb25. Conceptually, I think the lots to see part is probably a negative so I probably overreached on this one but it was fun to do; I really liked the tangerine effect which, like the eyes, is more striking in a larger size. It loses a lot of punch when reduced to fit the monitor frame.

Very interesting shot, lots to see in a small space, those eyes are really striking the way they've been processed, the tangereines look like oil on water.

Thanks, Una. Appreciate both the comment and the vote.

Careful, Franz -- she's 15! But true beauty is in the eyes they say so you may be right - but I went for the kaleidoscope effect anyway! (Would you believe about 95 photos? O.k. Let's count the tangerine (replicated about 90 times - you can count them) as one, marmalade 2, river 3, boat rail with ring-buoy 4, kaleidoscope image 5, Lucy 6.

This is from 3 different photos? Just a guess.
I like the idea very much and it fits very good to the music.
Beautiful model! For my taste you could have left her eyes natural - maybe just a reflection of natural light or a lamp to indicate a diamond effect? No actual need for that much work in post processing, IMHO.
All in all a very nice and effective picture.

I browsed through all entries, main and open, and the went to work. Since then I am constantly humming "... girl with kaleidoscope eyes ..." and I always see those eyes. Remarkable. And in my TT.

raf I was tripping out as it is! Well, I opted to show the progression (green trees to orange leaves to leaves morphing to tangerines to trees of tangerine...) rather than have Lucy in a totally tripped out world but in some ways, I think another perspective with totally tangerine trees might have worked better. I also gave a lot of thought to rocking horse people, newspaper taxis and the like. This one I would have liked to have a half dozen entries for.

Yep get it . Obviously doing a drug addled lyric with a straight shot is a little tough. I have no problem then with what you did in PP to get that trippy feel I just reckon it should have gone further, much further, like with a really crazy curves adjustment and a wavy background. (just ideas of the much further). Then Lucy would really be looking at a crazy scene.

LindyB, That actually is marmalade! I was going to do just Lucy's eyes. The bigger they are, the more impressive the effect (same for the tree too actually). I took a Kaleidscope image, perspective tool to adjust the angle, overlaid onto the eyes, erased the centre to reveal the pupil, and then moved sliders on contrast, brightness, sharpening to make them luminesce.
ThingFish, Quite honestly, I'm not a fan of this one either but doing the tangerine tree was a trip in itself; I had a much different concept to start but Lucy (at 15 yrs) wasn't game.

I'm impressed! You've taken on what, to me, would have been an impossible task and done a great job! If I was being picky, I'd say the marmalade doesn't really look like marmalade, but who am I to talk when I wouldn't have had the imagination or the skills to have even started!
I would love to know how you got 'Lucy's' eyes to look like that!

I am not really a fan of composite images but you have executed this rather well and it fits the song title.

Verrrry overprocessed. Otherwise wouldn't be quite the trip (LSD), eh? As a concept, it worked for me, but as a photograph it is more of a graphic, and less of an artistic, quality, I think (I thought of just doing the eyes but doing all the rest was way more fun!

Interesting take on the song, great job on the eyes but not to keen on the tangerines & marmalade sky. It looks to overly processed for me.
