  Mini#20 Best of 2009
Entry 11 of 45
Toronto Harbour Police Marine Unit Station       ©2010 Jade O.
Panasonic DMC-FZ30       11th place, 65 points
1s, f6.3, ISO 100, 35mm, Manual, Spot, no flash
Post-Processing: Stitched, cropped, cloned out distracting elements, resized, sharpened.       Extra Info: One of many beautiful architectural features located along the Toronto waterfront. (Since reposts are allowed I thought I would see how this would do after a little tweaking in keeping with your comments. I chose this entry since I rarely achieve this degree of both clarity and qualities of colours and light in what is essentially a landscape image. For me, and for that reason, I consider it is one of my best of 2009.)

I'm happy you finished high Jade, as said, this is still one of my favourite entries all around the year, bravo!!

Went back and looked at the original. This is an improvement on an already impressive shot.

Michael, I am so shocked and offended! LOL! See you in the next Challenge!

ROFLOL I found a definition of Jaded that I think might suit you 'made dull, apathetic, or cynical by experience' That must be you to a 'T' err I mean 'J'.

Jade: Just to let vous know that I caught your usual incisive and humorous remarks on my entries and they were appreciated. I had a lot of trouble with this entry as I a)knew it was yours b) knew it was a super shot photographically c) do not appreciate architecture of this kind - kind of like your sunset thoughts are to me :-) That being said I'm sorry it did not finish higher but at least it obviously gave you some satisfaction in it's capture.

Interesting about the polarizing filter - you're the only other person I know who uses one. Now if you'd put a screen door in front of your lens on this one - then we'd be talking tt. Best wishes, Michael

Thank you for your comments. Each one is sincerely appreciated. My image did improve after I took your previous comments to heart - thank you again to those who originally suggested taking out the wires in the right side corner.

Oh and rabaak, just an out of the box FZ-30 with a polarizing filter to protect the lens- a tripod and long exposure helped nail this one.

Very stunning the way the night light and water reflect the blue color. Impressive. TT~! GL

This time is a safe bet: Hi, Jade!! :-D
Nothing new to say, you know how much I like the blues in your pics, and this particular one is the most stunning, due to what you said, the fantastic clarity in the whole image being a night one... I positively know how difficult is to get that in a dark, nocturnal pic, with the little sensors in our cameras adding noise... I'm very jealous, you can be proud :-D And the little retouches, cloning out the wires, makes it even better... considering all, is also one of my favourites pics of the year, and will be in my TT, great job!!! :-)

I tend to favor blue tones in my images. This is a very cool blue tone image!

    Everything is perfect!
Composition, exposure, colors, ...
My first choice.
Good luck

I absolutely LOVE this one. The lighting inside and relflection on the water is so beautiful. Everything is so sharp and clear I feel like I'm there. If I took this I would be THRILLED and it would go up on my wall. You've inspired me to even THINK about getting up early and going out into the cold which is definitely not my thing.

Really nice shot with the reflection on the water. Could have cropped at the right side as to give emphasis on the station; nevertheless this still good. Love also the sky, probably in a few minutes the scene would be gone. Nice capture!

The color and sharpness are excellent.

I have a real weakness for reflections in water and these are superb. Great light; nice composition. Night shots are very hard, and this is a real success.

Jan 8, 2010
Wow, beautiful capture. You must have a good lens to get that quality of an image in a 1 sec exposure

Jade, this is so much better with the wires cloned out! You've summed up its qualities very well in your Extra Info and, if it wasn't for the outstanding entry 'Cypress Dawn', it would easily have got my 1st place vote. I'm afraid you'll have to settle for a #2 favourite from me :)
