Post-Processing: Perspective correction to vertical, resize, sharpen.       Extra Info: Completed in 1892, at a cost of $18,000., this prominent Toronto landmark is located at the eastern edge of the financial district. More properly called the Gooderham Building, and commissioned by George Gooderham, a prominent local distiller, this is the sight which greets thousands of office workers as they head into work each morning. The building site is a wedge formed by Front Street and Wellington Street, where the two streets join up to form a triangular intersection. Architect: David Roberts, Jr.

Mar 16, 2010		     Congratulations Jade - you put a lot of thought into this shot and I believe it will stand the test of time. Absolutely splendid.

Note for Uncle Alby - Jade can't cut the tree out. The City of Toronto has some of the most aggressive laws in the world to protect its trees and they do it well. Few people realize how much pollution a single tree can reverse. I know you were only talking about pp but I thought this would be an interesting fact to mention.

Mar 15, 2010		     Billy, you have my number,... almost. This is a morning shot actually and with traffic surprising light - public transit must be working! If you want to know how unusual getting this shot really is, (my guess is 1 in 17,520) look for my comments in the outtakes forum afterwards. Always enjoy your comments!

Mar 15, 2010		     I had a tough thinking on this pic... at first sight, I thought it was a little "late" for the golden hour, i.e., too many "night" city lights... but, after studying it deeper, I noticed the last (or first, I don't know) sun lighting on the background modern buildings, what gives that beautiful blues slightly red/orange tinted, so certainly qualifies...
... and, after deciding that, this beautiful pic quickly went up in my favs, to reach finally my #2... I really, really like it, is a great mix of contrasts, between the very different and beautiful lightings, between the old and modern architecture... great cityscape for sure, well done!!!
(guessing time... this seems to be easy... Toronto... not a classical sunset ;-)... lovely blues... hi, Jade? :-))))

Mar 15, 2010		     Alberto, Ufff...take out that intrusive tree? ...too much work in PP! This is a morning shot, facing west (the towers reflecting the easterly dawn light just breaking.)

Lo It is that juxtaposition that I tried to get to work well here. I also like the way the tree fills the top left and the branches embrace the top of the left most tower without interfering with the view of it - though Alberto has a contrary and equally valid opinion which leaves me thinking he may be more correct than you and I!

Thanks, Michael for summing up almost all that I was trying to achieve, no milky water or sunset anywhere!

forkcandles If you like this, next time you are in T.O. I'd be pleased to give you a list of great architecture to see - the City is really full of diverse styles and vistas. More than anything, Toronto is a collection of diverse neighbourhoods; going from one to another is something like going to different theme parks. And it is really quite an exciting place architecturally as the City is rapidly evolving with cutting edge urban design, architecture and common sense. (Toronto at last seems to have adopted Jane Jacobs maxim, "Old ideas can sometimes use new buildings. New ideas must use old buildings. ...")

drivingback I've worked a lot on getting exposures right so I appreciate your commenting.

elliott I felt the two vanishing points really help make this shot especially since the subject is more or less dead centre in the horizontal plane. I may post a bit more in outtakes after the voting ends to add some further details of (hopefully) interest.

Mar 14, 2010		     The more I look at this, the more I like it. I could have this on my wall and not get tired of it. The exposure is perfect; love the contrast between the fore and backgrounds in colour and in time; the pools of light and reflections add something special. Not a bit of milky water in sight LOL My #1
