Industrial fall       ©2010 dodrizzt
Panasonic DMC-FZ50       4th place, 88 points
1/80s, f2.8, ISO 100, 35mm, Normal Program, Spot, no flash

Post-Processing: Selectively increased saturation and contrast in Lab mode, strong sharpening and then defocusing with selective gaussian blur, added vignette, resize, USM       Extra Info: This huge monster (you can see just half of the building here) was once a cushions and beds factory; modern times, with strong competence in prices and lower production cost from abroad, have caused the closing of the factory many years ago. The building still stands, as a tribute to an ugly but well made architecture. Today is just a place where young people furtively enter to make their "secret reunions" and enjoy covering the walls with graffitis...

Many thanks as usual dear friends, for such nice and detailed comments, I'm happy yuo liked the pic despite being such an ugly building, it was a risky bet as I had pics from much more beautiful ones :-D
- Forkcandles: glad you liked it, the pic is taken just a little after dawn, it's almost the only hour of the day where the colours are a bit warmer, as you point; this side of the building almost never has direct sun lighting due to its orientation, apart from midday, when the light is too strong and flat to make a nice pic. Reflections, buff, impossible, almost none window remains complete, and the ones which still stand, are white-painted... no much more to get from this ugly fella :-)
- Michael: I'm getting a bit terrified with your Sherlock abilities LOL :-D :-D :-D of course I don't take Gaby in there... but sadly, this is the view we have from the windows on the back of my home. All the neighbourhood is (im)patiently waiting for the demolition of this old building, a nice park is supposed to take place there... but with the financial crisis here, it seems to be delayed and delayed... :-(
- Jade: many thanks as usual for your super detailed comments, I'm very happy you liked it and sorry for making you to jump from monitor to monitor :-D I've made a little perspective correction (sorry I forgot mentioning that on the PP info) but it was almost impossible to get all the lines on its place, I gave up (probably due to my usual last-minute run without time, args!). You are right, the lighting is what makes the pic, without that the buiding is very depressive :-/
- Doto: Many thanks also :-) that was my bet here, to enter something more "risky", as I imagined there would have been a lot of beautiful buildings in the entries...
- Alby: grazie my friend!! glad you like it, yes, I was thinking on a kind of retro-look, probably influenced by your own unique style :-) :-)
- Mike: wow! a top shot is more than I've expected, really! many, many thanks, happy you liked it so much! :-)

You've captured the dereliction and decay beautifully. The slight vignette just adds to the sad atmosphere. Very nice indeed and my top shot.

I feel I should like this one more and have viewed it on three monitors before I finally caught the colour and detail which brings so much impact to this image. I think a perspective adjustment would have helped me avoid the sense that the lower right vertical elements are off vertical. Nice time of day to catch the lighting which really makes this shot.

What an ugly decrepit building. I hope you don't take Gabby there. I'm not sure this will be popular since it is so depressing but I think it is a super shot and very well presented. I'm not sure if I like the dark bottom right but maybe it is correct. Congratulations

despite its current state and it reflects loads of areas suffering from the overseas low cost productions. The building still has something to offer and pictures taken at dawn or sunset whould have changed its colour, and added reflections .
