    John:
I love your work! This IMHO deserved to be higher. You are the tree master

I thought this was your entry. Congrats, although I liked your Open entry better.

Nice double top ten finish, John! You must do a training video of how to present skies like this!!!

Very johncomyn looking so I think of few of us knew it was you. Textbook example of the genre. Congrats.

I figured it was yours. My #1. No way #6.

I think this represent the theme more than other entries. While symmetry, light, B&W are elements of theme, not one is forcibly predominant but all blend and balance. So it is my no 1 pick.

I definitely see a balance between the light and dark elements, and a certain amount of asymmetrical tension with the third tree. I'm by no means an expert on balance, but I feel the top should be cropped a bit.

Symmetrical balance ok. In my TT.

got a feeling this is from our resident tree expert. great shot! if i were to print it, imo, i'd take off almost the top third of the shot. (i saved your entry and tried the crop before making this comment)
just my feeling for this type of composition.
cheers!

Very striking composition. I see the balance as tonal and asymmetrical, but it's very nice whichever. The clouds have a muddy look which I find a little uncomfortable, but maybe that's just the way they were.

Gorgeous image. However, placement of the center tree gives it a unbalance feel.

I prefer this to the open category image. The 3 trees balance each other very well and the contrasty sky does well to balance the darker ground. Well done with an excellent image!

Personally, I think it looks asymmetrical. I'm seeing 2 trees the left and 1 tree on the right, and I like the choice of b+w.

with the balance of the dark section not dominating the subject

Looks like a johncomyn shot. Balanced, of course.

I love the composition and mood of the image and it is well-balanced. A+

A very JohnComynesque image (that is a compliment). I think that symmetrical balance has been achieved by the two smaller trees flanking the middle tree. A striking image very well done.
