Entry 3 of 27

Safe Haven       ©2015 Lo
Panasonic DMC-FZ200       3rd place, 177 points
1/800s, f7.1, ISO 200, 217mm, Normal Program, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: Denoised, cropped, minor cloning, adjusted detail, contrast and levels       Extra Info: Flights of geese heading south find safe haven at sunset.
Balance hopefully achieved through rule of thirds, light water vs the dark shorelines, mass of smaller geese vs two larger ones in the foreground.

Dreamily romantic and so well done it could be a stock photo.

I'm glad you didn't have a bright sun on the horizon which would have drawn the eye away from the subject of the photo. Super shot. I agree the dark, black shoreline gives balance to the gold on the water.

Superb shot! The foreground grasses also contribute strongly to the balance.

Absolutely gorgeous. This is a well balanced image, but it would be a winner a many other categories.

Very well balanced. You didn't mentioned the bright highlight in the water by the sun, which has balanced the left to right of the image. Well Done.

I find the red of the sky just a little distracting, but overall a good photo and in my TT.

Beautiful colours and silhouettes, especially the delicate tracery of the foreground grasses. I like this even more when I scroll down to a point where the dark background balances the foreground strip, effectively making a top/bottom frame. Added to my favourites.

the picture with the sky works
using a black card i cropped the top off and flock and the reeds balance the geese very well
an outtake?

Great capture. IMHO this image has elements of asymmetrical balance with the large ducks in the foreground versus the small ducks in the background.
