Creeping Cactus       ©2015 Lo
Panasonic DMC-FZ200       21st place, 19 points
1/1600s, f2.8, ISO 100, 102mm, Aperture Priority, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: cropped, adjusted levels and detail, cloned out some wayward tendrils,       Extra Info: No idea what this plant is called, but I liked the contrast between the smoothness of the cactus and the wooden container, as well as the horizontal growth which balanced the vertical grain of the wood.

Hi JadeO - Thanks for the glimpse of a day on the trail. All I can say is it must be really difficult to keep your cool in situations like that, and to have the presence of mind to think on your feet. There's certainly a lot of trust between the guide and the rest of the camp - one wrong move by anyone and the entire walk is in jeopardy.

As I'm sure you know, I wouldn't have to convince Michael to go - he'd be there in a heartbeat.

Lo Just dropping a note here since I note your interest. Received an email from my walking guide a couple of excerpts I thought I'd share.

"While meandering through the bush on a well worn game path we saw some fresh lion tracks what looked like a female with cubs, but we didn't get to see them though.

Looking ahead down the game path there was a big White Rhino Bull that was making his way towards us. We took a bit of a detour...."

"On our way back we encountered a breeding herd of elephants coming out of a big river line. The wind was in our favour and we approached cautiously. We had a great sighting of the herd, busy breaking branches and even a calf suckling in front of us...
I looked around us, just to make sure no other animals are creeping up on us, and then I saw another breeding herd coming out of the river line. This was a bit of a problem...they were on their way to join the first herd with us in the middle. This served for a bit of adrenaline pumping, but luckily nothing too serious. Rule to remember: Never be focused on the animal in front of you, because chances are good there might be others around...."

Really I think it's time you convinced Michael to book a trip! : )

Nice capture, well balanced between colors & textures. Nice detail captured in the wood.

Like the textures, especially in the wood. Balance might be improved by shifting the image up, showing less above and more below. Softer lighting might bring out more color.

Well balanced to my eye. The longer on the vines/branches is balanced out by the dark vertical lines in the container. A good capture.

the green is a nice smooth shade and works well with the wood roughness
