1/400s, f5.4, ISO 100, 75mm, Landscape, Pattern, no flash

Post-Processing: crop, resize, maybe contrast adjust.       Extra Info: heavy fog on the water that morning. not trying to push the envelope as some may look at this as unbalanced. i hope there is enough color in the moss/seaweed covered log to give some balance to the composition.

thanks for looking and commenting (and voting). i was looking for a different shot when i went down there but couldn't get an egret to stand on the log. i just liked how the heavy fog blended so well with the water.

A beautiful photograph and well balanced

It is balanced, but not quite the impact it promises. Somehow the reflection on the left bothers me.

I think that there is too much negative space to really balance the picture, maybe with cropping.

Without the log, this image would be an excellent example of symmetrical balance. IMHO, the log adds very little to this image and almost seems out of place.

I don't feel that the log adequately offsets the structure. I think if it were closer in to it, with a narrower crop, it might have worked well.

Very nice balance. I'm guessing that this is some sort of lighted "Xmas tree" holiday decoration, seen on a gray day with the lights off (?). If so, it might be better shot at night lighted.

I feel it is somewhat balanced... The log helps and also doesn't help. It is a little small to balance out the main subject which I am guessing is a floating christmas tree (could be wrong). But if the log wasn't there then the emptiness might have balanced. But because the log is there my eye is drawn to it but it is not very interesting so I it is almost irrelevant. I am not sure what you meant by "maybe contrast adjust"? But regardless, this image needs more contrast.

IMO, Simple and very effective. The log has a strong pull on my eye.
In my shortlist.

I feel you did a good job in balancing your capture, you do have the symmetrical balance on left side.

this is an interesting and engaging shot to look at. And, well, no, it's not the color IMO that gives it balance, it's the asymmetric size and the two tips (real and reflection) with the log that forms a nice triangle. Probably would have given the larger object a bit more space above and below.

the balance here is a triangle but not quite the small off right subject is too small and the colour faint.
had you moved further to the right and lowered your POV

I actually find the log to be more of a distraction. Empty space can be a balancing element. I expect low contrast in a foggy scene but I think it cold be brighter.
