Navarro River       ©2015 Edward
Panasonic DMC-FZ1000       18th place, 53 points
1/3194s, f2.8, ISO 400, 25mm, Manual, Spot, no flash

Post-Processing: Lightened, applied tone contrast, increased vibrancy.       Extra Info: Turning inland from a foggy northern California coastal morning, we took a route following this river to go home. About a mile in, the fog began to break up, creating perfect light and clouds for this serene, reflective image.

Brown debris aside, I still thought this would make top ten. Beautiful!

Beautiful capture, the brown and orange stuff to the lower right was a bit distracting,

Beautiful lush vegetation with a perfect refection. I think the small patches of blue sky balance the greens nicely. Sounds like a wonderful trip, well recorded.

I love the texture in the water and the dramatic sky! I do feel it is slightly over saturated. Well done nonetheless!

Lovely balance and detail with vibrant colours that seem a bit too intense on my screen.

Steve: actually, those are great observations for improvements. Thanks.

It is a lovely scene with some strong compositional qualities -- two diagonal lines forming three equal triangular areas. The first thing my eye does is follow the converging lines inward but no point of interest. Next my eye roams about the image looking for another target but among the sky, trees, and reflection none stand out as the main subject. A boat or house or some other point of interest would help I think. The blues and greens are a bit overcooked.

the picture draws the eye across very well and the sky is well reflected with out burning out

This has an ethereal other worldly look to it. It also have an artificial cast which conflicts with the natural beauty. I'm guessing it is the vibrancy that is overdone. If one looks at the logs on the right they look pixelated in colourful dots as does the sky.

Robert: I wanted to respond to your comment, but I'm afraid I am at a loss for words...

Nicely done. IMHO, I would have flipped the image horizontally and that way the eye would naturally go from left to right. In this image I find myself going back and forth, which is a bit distracting.
